does anyone (from ireland) have a flute for sale?? it must be a good one.murray, olwell, grinter, hamilton, cotter or something along that line.i have a new one ordered from sam murray but it wont be ready until next april so i want to buy something for the meantime.
I notice you say in your bio "im from ireland. the home of trad music."
Well as every country has it's own traditional music, and as many civilisations are probably much older than Ireland's, I'd say it's a safe bet that many countries enjoyed their own traditional music long before Ireland's was up & running. So goodness knows where the first form of traditional music found it's home?
However, it is just possible that 'Ireland' is the home of 'ITM'. Although,..................................
However I could be wrong, & if I am, you can be sure some of this site's ethnomusicologists will be jumping down my throat
before you can say - disestablishmentarianism!
Now, what was your thread?
Oh yes, a flute!
Nope sorry, can't help.
We only have an old cracked yolk that leaks like eh.... 'one of those things with lots of holes'!
Fancy an Ormiston five keyed? Its not one of your cracked yokes. Maybe a bit too posh for the high altitude Grouser and makes a better sound as well but I'm sure you would be able to work that out for yoursel. Any way I have one which you might be able to prise off me.
seanie - we're not saying that it's not - just that some people, believe it or not, took umbrage to my referring to Ireland being the home of Irish Traditional music in a previous thread. Let's not go there again!
Oh fused, I seem to have upset the direction of your thread a little - sorry about that! Och well, this is a discussion page after all, & like all good conversations these threads wander all over the place, but don't worry, I'm sure you'll get some flute related ones too - if you are patient!
As for seaniemcg's question to me - "Where do ye think Sessions started"? Well, as I understand it, the first Pub Sessions were in fact in London, so what does that make them?
Come on now Conan, don't hold him back, let's get at it!
Now let's knock this fatuous idea that Irish traditional music is from/started in Ireland on the head right now!
Everyone knows that the Irish said they didn't want it anymore back in the 1920s when the church stopped all the crossroads dances and shot O'Carolan, the last of the harpers. Apparently, they offered him a blindfold but he said it wouldn't be necessary.
Now Dow has buggered off to australia with it, and it resides somewhere East of Wagga Wagga, the only town in Australia with no Wagamama Noodle Franchise as the adverts got too confusing.
And as for sessions, the high-level ones started in Boston, and the low level ones under a table in Croydon.
You want a bet? We can argue Black is really White on this site - for days & days & days & days & days & days & days & days & days & days & days & days.................................
As for Flute for Sale. You could try contacting Donal O'Connor. I got an E-Mail from him today about an E Flat Flute for sale, but - sorry - I lost it.
He may know of others?
He has a website & so does his Dad Gerry, so you should be able to contact him through one of those.
I did ask if you would fancy owning a lovely Ormiston keyed D flute. You can reply if you like. It might mean me coming to Mayo to deliver it. I'll bring me fishing pole.
It is a lovely flute with five keys. It has the short footjoint similar flutes can be seen on the Ormiston website. I have sent you a mail through your profile. If you want further I can even get a Photo to you.
