It's live radio broadcasts from the best of the best in CB.
Last week (the first week for the live broadcast) was Natalie MacMaster and Buddy MacMaster. You can't get better than those two. It was fantastic! Even great if you have dial-up connection.
Happy listening.
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to record (to mp3 or something similar) from live broadcasts like these?
I just emailed the Cheryl Smith link at the bottom of the page and also the AV Creative Media link on the right hand side to tell them of the problems.
Anyone else having problems should probably email them as well so they get the issues sorted.
I encourage all CB music lovers not to miss this week's offering. I had the pleasure of studying with Troy MacGillivray during Ceolas week a couple of years ago. I really enjoyed his classes. He has the Cape Breton driving bow, a beautiful, clear tone, and is a very pleasant young gentleman besides.
Semi-rhetorical* question: Whatever is wrong with the world that artists like Troy, Natalie MacMaster, Buddy MacMaster, Catriona MacDonald, Aly Bain, Seamus Connelly, et al. are not superstars a la Madonna and (eeeuuww) Celine Dion?
*By "semi-rhetorical," I mean, "If you have an answer for this one, I'd be glad to hear it. But I don't think you do, nor does anyone."
Keyed... some people on this site... namely one from Montreal seems to think that Natalie MacMaster is sh*te... dunno why... but sorely it's the truth. I'm personally in love with the girl and plan (jokingly of course) to off that guy Donal who married her By the way... Donal isn't from CB but plays one mean fiddle... why is he not a superstar too! Heheh...
But in ernest, GaryAMartin, you are correct to the tee. Let's just have role models, not superstars
Wow, that is one of the most exciting recordings I’ve heard in a long while. Hearing the audience makes it all the more so. A bunch of fiends are going up to CB for the big festival next month. Things seemed a little too busy for me to go this year but I might have to after all.
I'm SO EXCITED about this site. I just love it and I'm SO glad you all like it too. Isn't this just the greatest idea.
I'm so glad Cheryl (the website guru) fixed the server problems.
I'm listening to the 2nd week's recordings right now and chair dancing here at my computer desk.
I'm trying to see if the powers that be will enable links to listen and re-listen to the previous recordings (instead of having them only available for a week).
Oh man I just can't stand it. I'm originally from Nova Scotia but have lived in Australia for a long time. I just crave this music from Cape Breton. I think I'm just gonna have to go back. I HAVE to go to Celtic Colours before I croak.
And tulloch, your comment on someone from Montreal not liking Natalie. Go figger? Some people need their ears examined. I'm with you, I could listen to her all day. What a star. I just want to see her perform live one day. Playing fiddle like she does AND step dancing at the same time. The mind boggles.
I love CB music and I love this website! It is great. I have listened to the two broadcasts and they were both amazing! Why didn't they come out with this sooner???

Re: Cape Breton music lovers
I can't get the audio to run. I've updated to media player 10 but still no results. Any suggestions?

Re: Cape Breton music lovers
I can't listen to the programme, either. Don't know what's wrong.

Re: Cape Breton music lovers
Try waiting a day or so. I tried last week and it wouldn't play, then the next day I tried again and it was fine. It really is worth the effort.
I'm trying to find a contact link somewhere to let them know there is intermittent problems with listening.

Re: Cape Breton music lovers
What's wrong with the world is that we have superstars at all.

Re: Cape Breton music lovers
Yes, this is a great site. It does a nice job of bringing a part of the Cape Breton music scene to a wider audience.

Re: Cape Breton music lovers
Keyedup, to save theses files to your hard drive (wma format) give this a go, it works for me using firefox.
1. Go to <http://www.capebretonlive.com/media/mp_listen_2.asx>
2. In the 'Entry' tag you wil find <Ref href = "http://www.capebretonlive.com/audio/show(number).wma" />
3. Go to http://www.capebretonlive.com/audio/show(number).wma ( replacing (number) with whatever is written in the tag).
4. You should be givin the choice between opening and saving the document. Select Save.
Hope that works/helps.

Re: Cape Breton music lovers
I just heard that they have plans to archive the shows so you can listen to older ones on demand.

The festival is Celtic Colours. Haven't been able to make it yet, but hopefully someday.... Try www.celtic-colours.com for info.
