Irish tunes in tv shows

Irish tunes in tv shows

Hello people out there. Did you ever notice that Spongebob has Irish tunes or instruments for background music. I just noticed that a week ago. Anyway, has anybody found tunes and/or instruments tv shows?

I remember the Irish R M had some great music from time to time. In fact I learned a brilliant Polka off the show one week. They often show old episodes on RTE.

The Irish Rm had more top musicians than you could shake a stick at with Franke Gavin who arranged and recorded the original soundtrack.

There's a kids show called balamory or something like that. Think its set in a scot village. Kindof a postman pat sort of thing. Anyway, ive been told that it starts with a bodhran and whistle theme tune. One of the lads in the group has two young kids and said he can't get the tune out of his head, so much so that we've actually learned it. Not a bad tune

The janitor did a little jig at the end of an episode of Scrubs once. Music was a plastic replica of an Irish tune. Can’t remember what it was though.

In the first Hortio Hornblower series (The Duel) one of the midshipmen was playing "Ships are Sailing" on the fiddle.

Ballykissangel, Monarch of the Glen and Hamish MacBeth, all shown on public TV or BBC America in the US, often have traditional tunes playing, and even show ceilidhes in progress.

Re: Irish tunes in tv shows

Coronation Street 's featured pub tried hosting a session at one point. I don't think there was much if any music in the show, but there was a wonderful scene where a very large Irish gent with a big beard was instructing the young bodrahnistas, showing them how to gently gently caress the instrument, to underscore the melody, not drown it out.

At which point the then-owner (the diminutive Alec Gilroy) timidly approached him with a pint of Guinness. "Thanks, lad!" boomed the large fellow, and drained it in one big gulp, as Alec's beady eyes popped out of his head.

There was that movie "Sirens", of which I only wandered by on the tube, but Calliope House was playing... I then wandered past it again and kept on tuning for something to watch.
