AutobIographical Tune Sets?

AutobIographical Tune Sets?

I see FiddlinViolinin advocating a tune that describes himself : see
http://worldfiddlemusic.co.uk/mightycraiconline/
and admit that I play a set of "the Baldheaded Bachelor" and the "Left Handed Fiddler" with or without "Is the Big Man Within"
One of my bandmates, likes "the Mathmatician" ('coz he is one) but only plays diatonic instruments.
Anybody else narcissistic enough to play tunes that describe themselves?
I think we can rule out "Everybody's Fancy". We want something more specific.

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

Hmm, lets see is there a tune called 'The Kid who Wishes he was Rich and could afford Intsruments.'?
No. Oh, well then no autobiographical tunes for me.

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

I grew up on a hill and I like to play the Kid on The Mountain.
Oh and The eagle's Whistle (march) is the O'Donovan Clan march. See comments:

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

Description of my house - Dusty Windowsills or maybe The Leakin Roof
Last year's holiday - My mother was drowned at the pool in Lourdes

As for me - Time has not been kind :-)

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

"Because he was a bonny lad".

Anyone admitting to "King of the Fairies"?

Step forward all you Handsome Young Maidens - you must be out there somewhere ...

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

I Buried My Wife And Danced On Her Grave would make a hell of an autobiography!

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

Hi Gallopede - whoever you are.

I'm off to a desert island for a week or so - see you all when (if) I get back.

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

Two actually, “Tripping Up” and “Tripping Down the Stairs”. Very disheartening and painful at times. If the tune were entitled “I Buried my EX-wife and Danced on Her Grave” I would add a third to the mix.

Peace,
Ed

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

Dow - the complete autobiographical set would be:
Pull the Knife and Stick it Again, followed by, I Buried my Wife and Danced On Her Grave, and finally, Will You Come Home with Me! :-D

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

"Poor but happy at 53" is appropriate for another two months, but I'm not really into autoblogging.

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

I have said it before and will say it again, when I pick up my accordion, my wife wants me to play Far From Home.

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

I think I Have No Money and the Wandering Minstrel are fairly autobiographical.

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

King of the Faeries, with my head in the Moving Cloud. Cook in the Kitchen and The Clumsy Lover are pretty good too.

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

'Gusty's frolics with Jenny's chickens'

But perhaps that gives too much away.

Ah well. It's done now

I'm into biography rather than autobiography.

"I see FiddlinViolinin advocating a tune that describes himself : see"

I'm confused... ? I mentioned a tune that describes myself?

Cheers,

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

I confess I've always wondered what "Johnny with the Queer Thing" was all about---would anyone enlighten me or would I rather not know?
I handed tunes names to my students once, told then to pick titles that, strung together would tell a story, then we could actually play a story. Some of the titles they picked for me were "Old as the Hills", "The Hag with the Money" and "The Absent-minded Woman"---the litle darlings.

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

Armand, unless youve put on 40 lbs (and/or years) since that picture on themightycraic, you appear to qualify as "the Dark, Slender Lad"

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

also make you wonder about the Kilarny Boys of Pleasure ...

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

Is there a tune called 'The Fat Old Baldy B**tard'? No? Phew, thank goodness for that!! :-)

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

For me, it would have to be:

Whiskey Before Breakfast
The Glass of Beer
Banjo Breakdown
(which hopefully doesn't lead to:)
My Former Wife

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

dmarie, the Mathematician says it's a Selkie (Silkie?) story. Now you know as much about it as I do.

Re: AutobIographical Tune Sets?

Mug of Brown Ale (repeated several times) followed by Phelim's Frolics with The Maid Behind the Bar - we're (blokes) a pretty predictable bunch aren't we?
