I'm trying to incorporate the basses and would like to listen to some recordings where the basses are used effectively and in a way that I can actually hear them clearly (after slowing it down ), ie. preferrably a solo recording.
Regarding Joe Burke on the basses (many years ago, however) Jackie Daly tells of a performance (or maybe even a competition) where Joe was a wreck before going on stage because one of his bass buttons wasn't working. "Well, Joe," says Jackie, "Try a different one."
Christy Barry, Conor McCarthy, and Cyril O'Donoghue "late... in the night: Recorded live in O'Connors Bar, Doolin" (flute & B/C box with guitar, bouzouki)
Not sure if he plays the B/C box, but I love the mighty playing of Paddy O'Brien from Co. Offaly.

Can anybody recommend a suitable CD?
Thanks!

Re: Recommendations for B/C box CD
Jackie Daly uses the bases wonderfully on slow airs as I remember. I'm trying to do the same thing!

Re: Recommendations for B/C box CD
Jackie is not a B/C player.
Joe Burke playing solo or lightly accompanied is a real master, but he's light on the basses when accompanied by Charlie Lennon.
Billy McComiskey (B/C) has a fantastically-strong left-hand concept: his solo disc is excellent for this.
John Williams (B/C, formerly Solas) is equally strong on the bases. Both his first disc ("John Williams") and second ("Steam") display this.
There's a lot more, but for me, Billy's L-hand is king.

Thanks, Chris.
I've heard Billy McComiskey's do hist stuff on Trian II, and loved it. Do you know the title of his solo CD?

Re: Recommendations for B/C box CD
Conor McCarthy has a CD called 'My Left Hand'.
Arghhh, I only just noticed the witty allusion to 'My Left Foot'. How thick am I....

Re: Recommendations for B/C box CD
Any of James Keane's recordings - he uses the basses very effectively, although usually on the C#/D...
