Any TV advert addicts out there?

Any TV advert addicts out there?

A plea for help. Not being an avid TV buff I am at a bit of a loss. :-(

To put you in the picture, I have just been asked to track down a tune, learn it, & play it for a wedding which is taking place in the middle of September, 2005.

Now the bride to be 'thinks' the tune is called 'My Wedding Day' but the only place she has heard it is on TV, played to an advert for Bushmills Whisky - ah, now you can see why I thought of you lot!! Sorry Whiskey - force of habit :-)

Now I have no idea if this is a Trad tune or not, but you guys are my first port of call.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to relay the details of where this tune can be found, back to thesession H Q, at your earliest convenience.

This thread will self destruct in 5 seconds .......................................

Re: Any TV advert addicts out there?

I have no idea if it's the one you're looking for, since I hardly ever watch TV, but what about "She moved through the fair"? The first verse goes like this:

My young love said to me, "My mother won't mind
And my father won't slight you for your lack of kind"
And she stepped away from me and this she did say:
It will not be long, love, till our wedding day"

Like I said, I might be way off, but it was the first thing that struck my mind.

Re: Any TV advert addicts out there?

I'm glad the annoying "commercial-wanting" brides are not just confined to America. We get lots of soap opera wedding song requests, also. My least favorite is when someone requests Enya for a ceremony--I always think "do I LOOK like a synthesizer????"

Re: Any TV advert addicts out there?

The "Bridal Chorus," played at almost all traditional weddings as the happy couple marches to the altar, is sung in quite a different setting in Richard Wagner's opera Lohengrin. In this opera, the chorus starts singing as the hero, Lohengrin, accompanied by his new wife, Elsa, enters the bridal chamber, which is dominated by a very large bed. Their attendants then help them disrobe for their wedding night. Because of this sexually oriented scene, some religious sects have objected to using the "Bridal Chorus" as a wedding march.

The story of Lohengrin is classic. The hero, Lohengrin, arrives in Antwerp in a boat drawn by a swan. He defends Elsa and wins her as his bride, but he makes her promise never to ask him his real name or where he comes from. Encouraged by the heartless Ortrud, she does ask Lohengrin on their wedding night, and he is obligated by his vows to the Grail to leave her forever. So Lohengrin and Elsa do not live together until "death us do part," but rather quickly separate. Critics have said that the "Bridal Chorus" is one of the weakest parts of this opera.

Also, Mendelssohn's Wedding March, also a commonly used piece, was composed as incidental music for A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Re: Any TV advert addicts out there?

It seems the bride to be heard Anne Buckley sing it?

Dmarie, I don't know! Post a photo & we'll tell you! :-)

I hear what your saying Jim but I guess she just hears the tune & as a full time muso, when they offer a little extra cash for playing a 'special' tune, heck, what does a poor guy supposed to do?

Incidently, I usually try & steer them onto the Breton Wedding March.( thanks to Barney McKenna )

Re: Any TV advert addicts out there?

I wouldn't want 'she moved throught the fair' played at my wedding. It's about death and haunting, a real weepie. Nice tune though, and good song - but there's a time and a place..............
