Well, thanks to Jeremy and the Session website, another international link in the world-wide web of Irish music has been established. Last Thursday night, in the beautiful Pension Ornak, in Zakopane, in the Tatra mountains of Poland, I was treated to the sound of Janek playing a tune by a certain Montreal-based member of this site (she of the magnificent teeth). How much more international can you get than that? (Irish tune, composed by a Canadian, played by a Polish man to an English man in Poland..)
I can't stress enough how knocked out I was by Janek's guitar playing (I hope he's blushing). I was so entranced that I kept listening to him and ending up following what he was doing, rather than playing the tune properly (the cheap and plentiful Polish alcohol may have played a part here..). This was a bit of a problem when he was also trying to pick the tune up from me - a rather circular process would ensue.
We had a couple of really fun evenings, and on the second one he brought along some friends and we were treated to some wonderful Polish, Czech and Ukrainian songs.
Thanks again Jeremy (and Janek).
Ottery, I'm blushing all right! This was a thoroughly enjoyable week-end, but next time we have to watch out for the Tatra beer - it makes the fingers go numb too fast, in my opinion.
I'll second your praise for Jeremy - were it not for this site, I'd not meet Mark, we'd miss such a weekend (which would be a mortal sin), and I wouldn't be able to learn the tune of a certain Montreal-based member with the magnificient teeth.
I deeply regret that I couldn't make it to Zakopane and witness these evenings. To make up for that loss just a little bit, could you please tell me which tune do you mean?
Knowing that I could learn it and maybe join in next time. For now all I have is Tatra beer... Good start, I guess, but what next?

Re: Up the Pole
I've been to Zakopane. It's a beautiful place isn't it? And the water in the mountains looks so clear...

Re: Up the Pole
Witek, Kerri wrote a powerful tune with a powerful title (keep blushing, Kerri
)
And it's called...
THE CHEATING BASTARD.
Soon in cinemas near you... erm, I mean, you can find it in TheSession database.
