Traditional Irish Music Seisiuns are held every Monday at The Green Briar, Washington Street, Brighton Center. Boston Original Slow Session for beginners starts at 7: 00pm. followed by open seisiún at 9:00pm.. All musicians and listeners are welcome.
I don't know what level player you are, but there is also a learning session at the Castlebar, aslo on Washington St, on Thursday from 7-9. It's a class, a small bunch of learners get together and learn two or three tunes in the back room. Sometimes people stay after to just play, sometimes not. It's good fun, I go every week.
Boston is an amazing place for sessions, no matter what level you are. The Burren in Davis Square has sessions seven nights a week from 10pm, and also set dancing on Monday evenings and a Sunday afternoon session that starts around 3pm. The Druid in Inman Square has a really nice session on Saturday afternoon from 6pm to 9pm, and O'Leary's in Brookline has a nice one on Sunday nights from 7pm (I think) that T.P. has been known to frequent.
Don't be afraid to come down to Rhode Island while your out here.
There's two very friendly intermediate sessions: one's at Patrick's Pub (Providence) on Tuesdays and another at Ward's Pub in East Greenwich on Sundays. Their is a more advanced session at Rira's on also on Sundays which brings down a lot of Boston players. Rira's has become my recent favorite, good music, funny jokes & very pretty scenery which usually comes in pairs. here's a link for more RI info http://rhodeirish.net/frames/music.htm
you might want to also check out what's happening on the Cape & the Islands at http://home.capecod.net/~zouki/HELPFUL/sessions.html
Drop me a line when you get out here, we can do some tunes.

"very pretty scenery which usually comes in pairs"...What? Twins, or are we talking about rather more close up terrain than that, or have I missed the mark entirely? *grin*
The Burren strikes me as being more an advanced session rather than an 'any level' session (though, as mentioned, there are beginner/intermediate sessions in the area). No doubt, the guys at The Burren are friendly and will likely ask you to play a tune, but I think that's just because they are polite. Personally, I'd spend more time listening than playing if I were at The Burren. Powerful stuff! And I think the scenery was fine, though it's hard to remember now!
The Burren is quite advanced. Go to listen unless you really have something to offer. The Druid session, which has been superb this summer, starts at 6 on Friday and goes 'till 9 or 10, though that may all be changing soon as a bunch of the lads are moving out. There is a nice session more suitable to beginners at Hennesey's near Government Center, starting around 4 or 5 on Sundays. My favorite is the O'Leary's session at 1010 Beacon (St. Mary's on the Green Line). Tommy Peoples often plays at that session, as does Peter Molloy, though I think he's leaving to join Providence on their US tour.
Best,
Chris
You got it Glauber, those Molloy's have good flute playing in their blood. When I first heard him I was knocked out, than I found out who he was & it all made sense. He's got a reedy sound like Seamus Tansey does, he uses a less ornamentation than his father does. They're both mighty players.
The best sessions around for student musicians in Brighton are the BOSS session at the Greenbriar 304 Washington St.on Monday from 7-9 PM. The play list and additional info can be found at http://www.slowplayers.org/BOSS/index.html - A CCE traditional session follows at about 9:15 - 1:00 AM -
On Sunday night from 5-8 PM there is a new session at Porter Belly's 338 Washington St. about 6 doors up from the Greenbriar.
On Thursday from 7-9 PM there is a learning session at the Castle Bar 575 Washington St. in Oak Sq. about 3/4 of a mile west of the Greenbriar.
The other Sessions previously mentioned are typically oriented to experienced session players.
Also for a relatively complete list of sessions and other Irish entertainment check out The Boston Irish Immigrant published normally on Monday and available in most of the area pubs (8.5" X 11" - Green Cover) which has a good list of sessions every night of the week.
Play on!

I made a mistake in my post. The Hennesey's session is on Saturday. As for young Molloy - he was taught primarily by Paul McGratten, which accounts for a fair bit of his sound.
