Hmm. After my first post, and the replies that followed it, I've decided that there are a few mad people on The Session. Which is good, because I'm probably just as bad. I can post Manx tunes if you like - if you're really sure you want me to unleash the force. I need to figure out how to do it first. Ptarmigan - I'm not in Limerick anymore, that was a couple of years ago (how time flies) - how come you heard of me anyway? Not sure I like the sound of that! Which film were you on again? Anyway, thank you for your various welcomes. I'll try and put up the sessions that happen over here at some point too. :-p
Can I be the first to encourage you to submit some Manx tunes? I'll even help, if you want to email me gifs, pdfs, or some other format for sheet music, I can convert them to abcs and email them back to you for posting in the tunes section here. Or I'll gladly review and edit your abcs and send them back to you--it's really not that hard to learn the system, and then you'll be cranking out a tune a day into the archives here.
At any rate, I think some tail-less tunes ;o) would be a terrific addition to the site.
Lovely. Post away. Jeremy's usual rule is to post a few Irish tunes, than one of anything else, but I'll bet he'll make an exception in your case...? Well, O BD?
You taking the 'pith' there 'stalwart?
Not very subtle there boyo!!
Just you wait, my day will come, just don't turn your back on me!!
Manx, what makes you think there are mad people here?
This is the last safe house of sanity, the rest of humanity has in fact lost the plot, altogether.
Oh yes, I couldn't not hear about you while I was on the island, with your CDs & tapes everywhere & everyone talking about you on the island when I was over - didn't you know you were a local hero then?
Honest I wasn't stalking you!
My one crack at film stardom was ye olde - 'Boys from County Clare' - I think I'm on screen for about 10 secs. right at the start.
- & no I'm not a 9 year old boy, I am in fact the fat old man in the cap!!
Hey fat old man in the cap, you must have met Francis McPeake and Aidan Mulholland then. Aidan is the fiddle player who appears in most of the posters; he looks quite striking.
'Oh yes, I couldn't not hear about you while I was on the island, with your CDs & tapes everywhere & everyone talking about you on the island when I was over - didn't you know you were a local hero then?'
Very nice compliments, but I still reckon you got me mixed up with someone! Never been called a local hero. Although I once got paid 150 quid for being a harpist's hand double for ten seconds. I'm on a few compilation CDs but haven't got one of my own yet. About to record one with sister if we stop arguing.
I think I'll scan some tunes in and send them to Will. I might try one myself and see what happens, but I'm as bad with abc as I am with html code, so it could turn out to be a totally different tune.
Thanks for that ManxFiddle (is that your real name?!) That is the tune I was thinking of & I do enjoy playing it.
Not only good on Fiddle & Whistle but also sounds good on Hammered Dulcimer, although perhaps not so plaintive!
It's been a while. I'm afraid I discovered the joys and pitfalls of primary teaching, so I haven't had much time to post some more tunes up. No secret handshakes needed - just patience I'm afraid. The first one I did took me ages, then I got suggested a different key- which I didn't really agree with, but never mind. I shall try and have a good go at some more at Easter, but if you can't wait, I suggest you try andget hold of the Kiaull yn Theay books (1 yellow, 1 red - quite a few dance tunes and other tunes, and mostly songs in Manx) or the Manx National Song Book, which I think has most of the English Songs in (there might be Manx underneath - I can't remember off hand!) like the Laxey Wheel and that random George Formby one about the TT.
My real name is Katie.
I received your email and then went back to the site to find this message. Thank you!!! I will look for these books soon. I also teach school, kindergarten, so I wish you the best. Those little ones keep you young believe it or not. I understand why you don't have time to post those Manx tunes. I look forward to anything you post in the future.
hi folks - I have been searching for the tune used by Emma Christian for the song 'little red bird' or as known by the manx name 'Ushag Veg Ruy' - can anyone help? the tune is sticking in my head but is always handy to have the dots to make sure am carrying on the tradition.. will also follow up on the books suggested by manx fiddle - thanks

Re: Manx tunes
Just out of curiosity, do you know if anyone over there has ever composed a tune for Mike the Bike?

Cool.

What do YOU think John J?

Re: Manx tunes
How do I find the Manx ones on this site? Is there a secret handshake or something you need to do to find them?!
There's a great manx song we've done about smugglers - so I'm gagging to find the tunes and give 'em a go!
Please put me out of my misery!
