My fiddle/whistleness is out of commission due to wisdom teeth pullage...
Anyone have to deal with this?
I got back about 2 hours ago and I wondered if anyone went through the same deal. Well more like... How long did you have to wait before going to sessions again?!?! It's going to kill me!!! KILL ME!!!
Re: My fiddle/whistleness is out of commission due to wisdom teeth pullage...
As long as you don't do what I did:
Coming out ouf the dentists, all hopped up on local anaesthetics and pain-killers, I took the train home. This being midwinter and pretty well bellow freezing, I waited for 15 mins for my train outside, got on, and read a paper. After a little while, I noticed the car had quiet, which was strange, considering it was just me and a class of schoolkids, which tend to make a racket on such occations. They were all hanging over the back of their seats and staring at me. I must have been pretty dazed as I didn't find this very noteworthy at the time, but found out why when I got home. The two craters in my mouth where my wisdomteeth had been had apparently started to bleed. A lot. I also sported a beard in those days, so the blood formed icickles in my beard. I looked like I just eat someone.
On the pain thing. Get some sleep if you can. Only thing that helps after the 4th painkiller.

I completely sympathise on this - I had my wisdoms out under general anesthetic in hospital about 2 years ago and it was a nightmare- all I can say is I'd rather give birth than go through that again ( and I've done the latter twice so I KNOW what its like!!).
Keep taking the painkillers and sloppy food. It was quicker getting back to my fiddle- about 10 days than getting back to work but then there was more enthusiasm for the fiddle!

... This is going to suck. Oh no this is really going to suck. I hope it'll be less than that. Tuesday = the day a fellow from England is leaving and it's his last week and I was looking forward to seeing him and hearing him play before he leaves!! Cripes.

Caraaz - that reminds me of the woman at the local dentists who made a lot of fuss about how much she hated having dental work done, and said that she'd rather give birth than have a tooth extracted. Calmly the dentist replied "Make your mind up madam, and I'll adjust the chair accordingly"

Armand,
Just get lots of sleep, take your medicine and have patience--don't try to rush anything like solid food that will make you feel worse.
This reminds me of an adventure I had with dentistry and music. In my early years in the service I was a duty bugler, and one day rushed from a dental appointment involving novicane to the duty office to blow mess call. No time to warm up, but that was normal, as they didn't believe in disrupting the nearby offices with extra playing. Put the trumpet to my mouth, they keyed the mike, and all that would come out is a strangled bleeting sound, like a sick lamb. The duty officer finally took pity, leaned into the mike and said "mess call, mess call," and shut it off. They considered charging me for my transgressions on the grounds of "failure to use good judgement," but I was able to convince them that it was unreasonable to expect me to know the effect of novicane on bugle playing, without any prior experience.
So, once again, Armand, don't try to rush back to playing too soon......

When I had my wisdom teeth out, I was eating hamburgers on day three, and was fully functional again by day four. I played flute/piccolo at the time, and got back into it again about day four (I didn't play too high though...)
Re: My fiddle/whistleness is out of commission due to wisdom teeth pullage...
You're likely starting to feel better now anyway, Armand! But sympathies nonetheless. I remember when I had mine out. I was still woozy when my sister picked me up, and she got great hilarity out of listening to me try to sing to the radio on the way home, cheeks packed full of cotton wadding. I slept for about 24 hours straight and then it took another day of lazing around before I felt up to doing anything at all.

Meh, I need to have 5 (all wisdom teeth and another tooth that's been hiding for all those years :s ) removed myself next month :( I dunno what will be most dreadful - the pain, or not being able to play >.<

Armand, just eat lots of chewy toffee, ice cream and drink loads of hot fresh coffee right afterwards.
As Zina will tell you my advice is priceless. Or something-less anyway.

Re: My fiddle/whistleness is out of commission due to wisdom teeth pullage...
Oh cripes hahahaha... Thanks everyone by the way, feeling MUCH better. I've moved on to scrambled eggs! Upgrade!!
Yeah, from the people I've talked to that are my age [17ish] that have had their teeth pulled said that they're fine around day four like 1847 said.
Al, did the officers know that you were still under the novacaine?? If they did, that's kind of harsh =\
Cheers,
Armand

Officers can be a harsh lot, Armand.

Oh god, Conan, I'd forgotten about that -- hahaha! Armand, NEVER listen to Conan's advice when he's had a few drinks!
