Harp-builders in Ireland

Harp-builders in Ireland

Does anyone know if there are Harp-makers in Ireland and where they are situated?

Re: Harp-builders in Ireland

Paul Dooley is based in Ennistymon, Co. Clare. He's a performer rather than a harp maker though. Have a look at his website: http://www.pauldooley.com

You could try to contact some at Cairde na Cruite - see www.harp.net/CnaC/CnaC.htm - they may be able to point you in the right direction

The list below is out of date, but it's a start . . .

Most of the harp builders in Ireland don't have their own websites, but one who does is Jan Muyllaert:

Re: Harp-builders in Ireland

You can also get them through the Historical Harp Society, if you're interested in wire-strung - www.irishharp.org. If you haven't considered it, I really recommend that you do, it's a really beautiful instrument! They have a summer school too (which I'm going to, and can't wait! :)) - www.irishharpschool.com

Re: Harp-builders in Ireland

The early Irish is cheaper, more portable, and more beautiful than the modern ones though, I reckon....
