Further to my "An Australian in London" discussion ... after a comedy of errors minus the comedy, it seems I'm finally outta here on Saturday and arriving in London on Sunday July 10.
In theory at least, with work plus a holiday I'm there till Aug 20 or 27, and a bit longer if the secondment is extended.
Any other thesessioneers visiting around then? Q? bb? SirNose? That Other Person from Durty Nellie's who a little birdie told me last Sunday is thinking of heading over UK-way ASAP?
Tish - I'll be around up till last two weeks of august - minus most weekends --- so basically I'll be in the Blythe on most Thursdays! You are of course very welcome but depending on where you'll be staying it may be a bit out of the way. Do you know where you'll be staying?
Very frightening.
I was in Central London last Friday to see that play the Hammersmith Irish Centre were giving away tickets for (don't ask!), and looking at the seething mass of humanity, and on a couple of occasions (on the tube and in a heaving crowd at Covent Garden) the thought of how devastating a terrorist attack there could be crossed my mind.
and now this.
Danny, I'll be down Wimbledon way, unless they advise against travel to London in the next little while. I'll be in touch about it later on - more important things for people to think about at the moment.
Sincerely hoping no one from here, or their friends and family, were caught up in it.
Even with the morning's attrocities, London is still a very safe place to be. And also, most sessions are round the fringes, outside the central area where these things took place.
The worst thing will be, for most people, the transport disruptions, both the security measures that will come in, and the neccessary repairs and the time before things get back to normal. All this no doubt intended by the perpetrators.
We have a friend who lives in Manhattan - 2 days after 9/11, he went up to his apartment block roof to locate the hovering helicopter he could hear. There was nothing there, only the air-conditioning unit of the adjacent block. It was the first time he'd been able to notice it from all the other continous noise.
8>) I don't think I'm capable of a drunken haze, Danny - I'd be asleep!
No firm itinerary yet for sessions, though I'll probably be at the Kilkenny Arms on the 19th. I'll definitely come up with a plan once I arrive though, for sure. I just have to check in with a colleague who has a few things tentatively planned and when I know what he's up to, I'll be able to sort myself out, check out transport possibilities and timing feasibility given work the next day - all the usual.

Re: Who's in London July/August?
The future is very misty right now. I *may* be there by August's end. But then I might not, also
sorry to be so vague!

Re: Who's in London July/August?
This sounds like a good opportunity to get another "London Regional Chapter The Session.org session" off the ground. Anyone up for it?

Re: Who's in London July/August?
It's not the place to be this morning. Shocking news!

Re: Who's in London July/August?
I was on the tube just 48 hours ago. Very shocking.
Even Shannon airport can be the target, I think. It's not safe with lots of American soldiers sleeping on the sofa.

On a lighter note, you'll be near the Kilkenny Arms and Tír na nÓg:

and not *too* far from the Blythe:

Re: Who's in London July/August?
Tish, I'm sure you could get to Slough

from Wimbledon without too much bother.
Despite John Betchamin's invitation:

I'm sure it's quite safe(!)

So Tish, have you worked out an itinery? Or would you be like me, just aimlessly drift from session to session in a drunken haze?

Hehe, sounds like a good career change, Danny! Yes, Slough ... I read that poem somewhere years ago - I'll bring my hard hat just in case.
