The Smithsonian, a large US government organization that runs fabulous museums, hosts concerts, publishes an excellent magazine and does many other things towards its purpose of promoting all things cultural, has an interesting spot on its website: http://www.smithsonianglobalsound.org. For $0.99 per track, one can download vintage tracks from the Smithsonian's collection of folk music. I quickly browsed through an Irish music sort and found several that looked interesting, going back to recordings from the 1950s. Fans of folk music from other cultures will find tracks of interest here too. mw

Thanks, Mark. Always looking for new ways to rachet up my credit card debt!
The Smithsonian Folkways collection is pretty rich. Lots of interesting stuff for fiddlers, anyway.

Re: Vintage recordings link
I wish I had a credit card - I've always fantasised about having access to a collection like that.

Sounds like it's just as well you don't have one so!
