Just back from the Newcastleton Folk festival where I had a great time. Lots of great tunes to be had and I must have played almost non stop, in between consuming several pints. Of course, there were lots of better musicians there than me but I seemed to know so many more tunes this year--many of which I don't have names for...
I also broke many of the "Yellow Board" rules and did a fair bit of "noodling" too but I wasn't alone.
Anyway, in this vein, a fiddler (Nick, who may or may not visit this site) had really amazing tee shirts for sale and I purchased one for posterity. They read..... on black surface
Of course, all this is a bit "tongue in cheek" and in good fun but there were quite a few sales. Obviously, many people wished to annoy some of the folks "back home".
Any more "Old Gits" out there and are there any more rules you might wish to add? "No Bongos" would probably be my first suggestion!
The musicians had camp followers??!!! Is this a new fad? Lots of people running aropund claiming to be the only hammered dulcimer player in the village?
I think we were in the same session on Sunday at Newcastleton this year John J, though I was only there for a couple of hours as I was playing a 'paid session' at night.

Re: Been there, seen it, bought the Tee Shirt
Oddly enough, most people in Newcastleton seemed quite happy with the extraordinary influx of musicians and their camp followers.
How about "Don't step on my tradition and I won't step on yours!"

Re: Been there, seen it, bought the Tee Shirt
How about one that says, "Tune it, or DIE!"

Re: Been there, seen it, bought the Tee Shirt
I'd like to have some music dots on the back of my shirt - it's no use putting them anywhere I can see them.

Could Jeremy get a franchise and offer them on this site ? ( Customised versions extra, of course )

Re: Been there, seen it, bought the Tee Shirt
Well, maybe Nick will come here to tell us. I don't know if he visits this site but he's been coming up to Newcastleton, Girvan etc for years.

Create your own design. T-shirts, mugs, bags, anything.
And it works! (Bought a bag from there)

Re: Been there, seen it, bought the Tee Shirt
Don't do it on my account, Curlew. I've already got one.

We obviously have met each other over the years. I'm sure we're both nice people too and we got well in "real life".

Flauta Dolce,

See this thread

I've no problem with it myself. Most of us do it and the rest are liars.

Re: Been there, seen it, bought the Tee Shirt
I've got Nick Spencer's email address. Send me an email request and I'll forward it on to Nick.
We discussed a few additions to the rules:
No more than 3 tunes in a set
Only 1 guitar in a set
Only 1 bodhran in a set

A heavy contingent of NMPs as I recall.
Non Melody Players.
