Just saw an item about software that cleverly allows a few people to jam on-line. The idea seems to be that it makes a virtue of lag to keep people in sync. Details here: http://www.1014.org/hp/?article=237
Ha! Clever idea, at least up to a point. It's a neat way around the latency issues. I wonder how it knows the "interval"... I guess you must have some sort of predetermined rate metronome playing on your client software.
My guess is that it is really more suited for "free form" jamming as opposed to trying to play a particular tune,
I guess maybe you could set the interval to a whole repetition of all the parts of a tune. Then the only time you have trouble is when it's time to switch to a different tune - then you're playing the next tune for a while while you're listening to the last tune...
More info at http://ninjam.com, with downloads coming soon for both PC and Mac!
Will be fun to experiment with at the least, but I don't see too many Irish Ninjams cropping up all over the place.
Seriously, it does bear watching. Maybe they'll be a section on this site that you can arrange a session with someone of your level along with a suitable time.
"Geographically challenged" - I like it!
I've got Skype on my work PC - one of the contributors on the forum mentioned that - but I haven't used it yet! - as I don't know anyone else with it.

Re: Software of interest to Sessioneers
I know a guitar player or two who could use a bit of 'lag' to keep them in sync. !!!!
