Rathkeltair?

Rathkeltair?

Hi,

Anyone heard of a Celtic band called Rathkeltair?

Back in the 80s when I was young, I adored (and still adore) an inexplicably obscure pop/rock band called the Bolshoi. I was surprised to find out just now that their brilliant singer / songwriter Trevor Tanner is now doing Celtic.

But I've never even heard of Rathkeltair! Has anyone here heard anything they've done?

Re: Rathkeltair?

I know they played at a Scottish/ Irish Festival outside of Philadelphia within the past year or two, and if I recall correctly they were a good time. Anything with Neil Anderson (piper) is usually entertaining. Obviously not traditional. More towards the rock end of things, so if that's your cup of tea, then they're definitely worth checking out.

Re: Rathkeltair?

They play fairly often at Meehan's Pub in Alpharetta, Georgia. A friend of mine LOVES them, he gets so excited when they are in town. He says Neil Anderson is "the Jimmi Hendrix of Bagpipes." I have stayed away for that reason!

Re: Rathkeltair?

I too was a huge Bolshoi fan and have since discovered Rathkeltair. I see them every time they come near Georgia (6 times in the last 3 months) and have tried not to miss a show. They have a devout fan base of folksy folks, dead-type college kids, Celts and cool people. Some of them/us go to EVERY show. It is a freaking blast. Punk as anything.

They play a mix of Trevor's, Neils, Collier's and Nick's songs and keep every show fresh. Try try try to see them. THe new material sounds very promising.

I've heard that "Jimi Hendix of Bagpipes" quote from someone, probably someone at Meehan's. Don't be scared. You'll love it when you're there. The cds are great but the show is nothing short of electric.
