Whats wrong with everyone?

Whats wrong with everyone?

So I joined this site some time ago, and periodically we have had good discussions, bad discussions, and plain old craic. So, where is every one? Are you all on holiday, or are you fed up with discussing the ins-n-outs of trad to the point of lethargy?
Answers on a postcard please.

That's funny -- I was wondering the same thing about you, rea. ;-)

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Some of us have to practise Jack due to other commitments, but it`s still nice to speed read from afar.....
So whats the story, has inertia set in or what?

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

If we run out of things to say, and there are no more new tunes to post, what's the future for this website, I ask?

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Uh, I played for a mini-Celtic Festival yesterday... that took some time. Had to arrange sets, practice etc. but I still posted here. What was your excuse again rea?

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Have a recording to practise for, and believe it or not a full c.d to practise recording for, with a flute buddy. I`m getting alot of music at the moment, maybe to the point of over doing it.
But sure it could be worse, I could be a bodhran player...
What do you think Bliss ole boy?

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Like everything else, there are peaks and troughs. So maybe you see The Session.org going through a trough at present, Rea. But I bet it will pick up again soon. It's too valuable a resource to take for granted.

For me personally, I'm lately getting back into posting my own peculiar brand of nonsense here again.

So be warned......

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

I think recording is OK Wreckin' if you are allowed to go in and just play, and the engineer adjusts the balance. I have had some terrible experiences with engineers who decide after you have left that it should sound like this, and jazz the thing up for the popular market.

But all of that is mostly with songs. Recording CDs can be fun, what's the money like?

You don't need a bodhran player do you?

# Posted on May 23rd 2005 by bodhran bliss

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Whatever you do, rea, don't bring Blisster in on the project or you'll just become his back-up band.

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Hi Wreckin, I decided to take a day off work, just so that I could contribute to this site and reassure you that some of us are still around.

That was very nice of you Cath.

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Hey Bliss no money involved, sorry. We are doing it for ourselves as a little providence project. Something for the kids to listen to when they are older.

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

I think these things go in cycles.

When I first started contributing to the site about three years ago I was much more prolific (if nothing else) in terms of comments etc. but I've found recently that a lot of the same threads/ questions are coming up from new members and that's OK, but I feel less inclined to go through the same discussions as before ..unlike Zina and Will who obviously have far more patience than I do.

I have also noticed that there now seem to be a lot more postings (and they get fewer responses) whereas a couple of years ago there were fewer but the number of responses was greater. Or is that just me?

Any way, that's why I'm not here that much any more.

I blame hoodies.

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Let's ask Jeremy to ban hoodies from this site.

Wish I'd brought a hoodie, it's bloody cold!

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

To be honest, I have been treading the boards, as I also do amateur dramatics, usually without dramatics.

And Jack, that was a terrible thing to say, about 'Rea becomming my back up band. It is probably true, but you didn't need to say it.

# Posted on May 23rd 2005 by bodhran bliss

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

I have become a rock star of late, and I spend most of my free time fending off the groupies.

My band used to be 'Chopped Liver', and then 'Poached Salmon in a White Wine Sauce'. But then we thought that wasn't trad enough. So now we're Spud Rocket.

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Hi Rea...still here, checking in and trying to ignore all threads about drums. Is it me, or do all the recent threads end up being about drums and drummers? Good luck with your recordings! My best to one and all.

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

"I have become a rock star of late, and I spend most of my free time fending off the groupies."

You don't have to be a rock star to have groupies. Last night we had one at our session. It seemed that triplets played by the banjo player gave her nipples an erection and she declared, "I'd sleep with him just for those triplets." She was all over him for the rest of the night, and she gave good footsie evidentially because there seemed to be a lot of extra-curricular activity going on under the table, and they left together to go for pizza and donuts. I'm assuming the pizza was a late night snack, if you get my drift, and the donuts would be for breakfast I’m guessing.. ;-)

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Was that the American kind with holes in Jack, or the jammy kind you get in Australia & UK, a big doughball with a blob of jam injected (which becomes scalding when deep-fried)?
I must say I prefer the jammy ones.

# Posted on May 23rd 2005 by Bren

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Definately too many threads about drums of late Jode. Nice to hear from you..

You'd have to ask them, I wasn't there. But now I have an idea for a new thread. :-D

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Rea - I still check in most days when I can. Indeed a couple of my earlier postings today were on the Stansted Express in to London on my Blackberry Wireless. I sort of like the site but I do agree that it has been a wee bit lonely recently.

So - Bliss - how about starting a couple fo non bodhran threads since you seem to have overtaken Master Gill as the wind up merchant getting loadsa comments?

Heard you had stopped going to Whites on a Saturday - what's that about?

Must try and get up for a few tunes one of these weekends - really enjoyed the last time I was up. Mr Green and Mr Monzani seem to get on very well with me playing some of the best music in years. Unfortunately Mr Powers seems to rob me of all motor skills at the end of the night :-)

# Posted on May 24th 2005 by breandan

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

I appeared at White's on a free Saturday. I have been appearing in a play on subsequent Saturdays, averting global catastrophes on a few Saturdays, and whatever. Heading to Newcastle for Union conference at the start of June, could appear in Savages some night.

And it seems that nearly everyone on this site plays a bodhran, or think they can.

# Posted on May 24th 2005 by bodhran bliss

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Sorry Bliss - that comment was for Rea.

But if you are down you should note that Savage's is no more.
We have moved to Maginn's on the second Friday.

Drop me an email via the site if you are coming down and we can co-ordinate. Maybe even a session in my house if nothing else planned.

Oíche mhaith.

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

2 parts fed up, 3 parts busy. The "fed-up" has nothing to do with your lovely selves, though, but the larger-than-I-ever-would-have-believed community of lurkers in the world who talk about us and our respective character flaws out in the real world. Which sometimes prompts our very best friend to send us MSN messages saying we should try to "tone it down" because complete strangers have extremely strong opinions about us. So I'm toned down.

# Posted on May 25th 2005 by Kerri Brown

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

No-one sends "tone-it-down" messages to those Survivor people, do they?

# Posted on May 25th 2005 by grego

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

I don't use MSN so I don't get any messages :-)

There, I've thought of something to say on this thread.

Trevor

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

You shouldn't give a rats arse for the opinions of lurkers who discuss character flaws ...fcuk 'em

# Posted on May 25th 2005 by BegF

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

I think it's a bit sad to lurk on the discussions board for a long time, contribute nothing and then have the temerity to slag people off. It's pretty gutless. BegF has it about right; their opinion is not worth squat.

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

I know that and you know that, but my friend gets very stressed out about the fact that people who have never met me have such strong feelings of loathing.

So to save her the emotional strain I am catching up on 6 years of weekly Savage Love advice columns for my daily allotment of time-wasting. After those have all been read, lord knows what I'll do with my work day. Any suggestions?

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

Feeling a little paranoid this morning are we?

# Posted on May 25th 2005 by Phantom Button

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

"Any suggestions?" - Go to the tunes section - i think elements of this site are great...

PS good idea about the calander....

Ask Conán above you there about Gráda....

# Posted on May 25th 2005 by Hugo Chavez

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

I'm not paranoid, they're really out to get me. I have proof.

Tunes section, eh? Is that where the craic is these days?

Re: calendar, I'll fire that idea off tout suite.

# Posted on May 25th 2005 by Kerri Brown

Re: Whats wrong with everyone?

*choke* ROTFL! Kerri, after reading six years of Dan Savage all in a lump, you should be more than capable of defending yourself against nasty gossiping lurkers!

Me, I can't access the site from my home browser anymore (am getting a new internet computer some time in the next six weeks or so) and have less time to cruise at work than I used to. So I can't pop in much right now.
