wearing of the green

wearing of the green

hey y'all, i'm really sorry to post a thread like this, but i didnt know what else to do. the piper in my band plays "the wearing of the green" (a march, i believe?) as part of our set. i need my accordionist to learn it. so i looks it up in the tunes section and it apparently doesnt exist....is there another name for this tune? seems very common. if you dont know this tune by this name, it's the same as the song "by the rising of the moon". i dunno, just thought it was bizarre. thanks you lot.

Re: wearing of the green

You could try in JC's tunefinder:

http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/TuneFind?P=rising+of+the+moon&m=title&M=&L=&K=&V=4&W=wide&limit=100&thresh=5&V=1&find=FIND

This should be the right tune!!

Re: wearing of the green

duh, why can't the piper teach it to the acordianist? With the greatest respect (as Blair puts it) read http://www.thesession.org/discussions/display.php/6639

Re: wearing of the green

Ok, I admit it. I'm with Michael on this one.

For that matter the tune is so all prevailing that I'm at a bit of a loss why the acordian player couldn't simply teach it to himself.

Re: wearing of the green

You can be polite all you like Jim, but I find no one ever listens to helpful and polite tips anyway.

Hey, I evinced that I agreed with him, but I never said anything about being friends.

Re: wearing of the green

Anyhow - it isnt like Bard is new to this site. He has submitted 22 discussions, so really -he should know better and he should also know that its expected that Michael is bound to say something like that.

Re: wearing of the green

I guess thats the difference between us Jim, I dont find anything Michael says offensive. 99% of what he says are things that I just assume everyone already knows because its common sense.

Re: wearing of the green

The march we are discussing goes with the words of both "Rising of the Moon" and "Wearing of the Green." You don't see it in many tune books, but you can find the music in scads of Irish song books. I taught my group how to sing it, and they thought it was rather corny, so we added a couple of marches on the accordion up front (Dawning of the Day and the Minstrel Boy), with bodhran thumping and everyone else clapping along. The long instrumental lead-in gets everyone into a good marching state of mind, by the time the singing starts.

M.G obviously hasn't read that Al, or else he has and gone and done something terrible.

Re: wearing of the green

are they both the same tune?

as we can do the (politically incorrect) 'Rising . . . ', but the 'Wearing . . . ' rings a bell with me and i'm not sure if it's the same
