A wonderful man at our church gave me a LOVELY mandolin the other day! Needless to say, I'm still on cloud nine. I'm a "wanna be" fiddler so I already have something of a basis for fingering, but I was hoping some of you could recommend some good beginner mandolin books or how to sites. You know, chords, correct right hand technique, things like that. I'd really appreciate it!!
right hand technique is EVERYTHING in playing the mandolin well ! I suggest finding a good teacher near you and paying them for a few lessons. Concentrate on how to hold the pick and how to strike the strings.
good luck,
joel
Go to www.mandolin.co.uk and order the CD/Bood "The Mandolin Tutor" - you don't need anything else. If you race through that then buy "Mastering the Mandolin". Simple really.
Simon also has the "New Celtic Mandolin" book which is "sort of" relevant for our kind of music. I'd recommend that one too.
However, the genre doesn't really matter as these are all excellent books from a beginner's point of view.
I apologize for the intrusion but i'm at a loss as to where to find a mandolin version of O'Carolan's Farewell. can anyone help me out? Thank you kindly.
New Mandolin!!!!
