Irish Music Magazine

Anyone else having trouble getting IMM is the USA? I send my subscription in via email, did not get a confirmation, tried calling but the number was disconnected. Their web site looks like they are still producing current issues. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Irish Music Magazine

I get mine on time no problem. Having said that i needed to phone a few times after i paid to get it up and running. Even getting it in a newsagents here in Cork is impossible,so the chances in America must be nill. Their distribution is terrible.

I also had to ring them a few times to get my free cd with my subscription, when i subscribed the free cd was Cathal Hayden's album,(which was what tempted me to subscribe in the first place) but they had run out of this by the time they sent me on a cd, which turned out to be Donal Lunny's definitive Moving Hearts.....crap, and the attitude on the phone was take it or leave it..
I'll give them a ring during the week if you like (free from work) to see if i can get through and will email you back. I got this month's edition the other day

Re: Irish Music Magazine

My latest copy turned up yesterday (I live in Australia). When I subscribed in March (by fax) I also ordered a couple of back isues which also arrived no problem. I have found them not to be terribly helpful over the phone, but no problem if I fax it.

Re: Irish Music Magazine

I just gave up on this issue. A few years back I seemed to stop receiving issues before my subscription expired. I tried contacting them with no luck, so I just bit the bullet and accepted that I lost some money on the whole deal. Maybe I'll try again in a few years because it really is a nice magazine.

Re: Irish Music Magazine

I've never had any real problem with them apart from one time when my subscription expired and they didn't notify me Perhaps, I should know these things myself but you forget dates sometimes. However, a phone call sorted things out.

Re: Irish Music Magazine

A magazine that doesn't notify you when your subscription is about ot expire? Sign me up!

Most magazines in the U.S. start worrying you about missing an issue by billing you for the next year about one month after you paid for this year's. Keeps my mailbox full -- and ironically, almost caused me to miss renewing my New Yorker subscription this year, I get so used to just pitching the come-ons.

Re: Irish Music Magazine

IMM has been sending me copies every month, despite my subscription lapsing last September. Obviously, I must be swinging the swings and riding the roundabouts.

Booze-ups and breweries, anybody?

All the best,

Geoff

Re: Irish Music Magazine

Once our subs' started, it's been very steady, and the magazines come in a nice blue plastic wrapper that keeps the USPS from destroying them (as they so love to do with my other magazines).

IMM needs a better copy editor, tho. Some of the things that get thru (odd spellings, typos, duplicate lines...) are pretty crude, journalistically.

Re: Irish Music Magazine

I used to pick the magazine up in the US at Borders Books, but guess they lost their distributor, because I don't see them any more, even at the most completely stocked newsstands in big cities. I have heard horror stories about how they handle their subscriptions--so I never tried to start one. And those people I know who have had articles published in the magazine were never paid for their efforts. And don't get me started with the sloppy editing and typesetting. It is too bad that the best magazine on the Irish trad scene appears to be poorly managed.
