These guys showed up at our session on Tuesday night to say Hello to Brian Kelly. They were in England for a few gigs.
Anyway, I caught their show last night in Berkhamstead, just North West of London.
Well I have to say I was blown away - they are excellent! As well as being comfortable with traditional Irish and Breton tunes they have a powerful, melodic and , importantly, cohesive sound. They seem to put their own stamp on everything they do. As well as being really friendly and relaxed they genuinely seem to be good friends and not just another bunch of musicians who decided to form a group. This comes across well in their performance and general stage presence.
Although the music is fantastic the show stealer was a song, Madam I'm a Darling, by Anne Marie who learned it from the great Niamh Parsons. She accompanied herself on bodhrán. Her voice is clear as a bell and her bodhrán playing is top notch.
These guys are off to the States shortly - I recommend without reservation going to see them ASAP!
They are coming to the Blackstone River Theater in northern Rhode Island on June 18, I was looking forward to it, now I am REALLY looking forward to it.
Yes indeed - guilty as charged. I'll be there again on Saturday 14th May for the Folk Festival but I'll have leave early working muso etc etc. The 5-strings going great and it normally gets the "Tim" checking it out routine at Chippenham every year just to make sure I'm looking after his baby.
yeah, just try to to see them...
they were twice at the dranouter folkfestival now... and I saw them also at a smaller gig...played at a session with them... I'm always there photographer when I'm around, ... they are superb....
and really very nice lads and anne marie of course...
big chance I can see them four times this summer;... would love to ... ))
they have a special place in my heart anyway
lievegreetings

Hi Stacey - are you the guy with the 5-string fiddle at the Winchester Eclipse last year (or the year before?)
