Tune types

I see that when you want to submit a new tune, one of the first things that you have to do is select the type of tune that it is (jig, reel, polka, etc.) My problem is that I want to submit a tune that is a march, and this type is not listed in the tune types. What can I do about this?

Re: Tune types

I've added "March" to the list of tune types. Essentially, it's the same as a polka (2/4 time with 1/8 note length).

Re: Tune types

Okay, thanks!
I'm fairly new here (I only discovered this website today, in fact.) I'll have to explore this site a little more, and maybe submit some tunes.

Re: Tune types

Sorry to pick nits, but what if a march is in 6/8. I, like other experienced tune posters, know that it's just a matter of pretending it's a jig, and revealing the truth in the Comments section. But to a first time poster, it could be misleading.

Sorry. I'm great at finding problems - I'm useless at solving them.

Re: Tune types

Hmmm... maybe I shouldn't have "march" as a tune type then. It might be easier to just submit the tune as either a polka or a jig and then explain in the comments that it's a march.

Remember, folks: the comments are the most important bit of each tune. Don't rely too much on the technical details - it's more important to listen to what people are saying about the tune.

Re: Tune types

I submitted a march today. It's in 4/4 time so I called it a "reel" instead of a march, even though it's really a march. It was the only way I could get it in 4/4 time. I hope this is okay.
