after Planxty's reunion last year, it was expected or dreamed ..the annoucement has been made today..the Bothy Band will play some gigs in Ireland..the line up will surprise many.. a CD has just been released (in the recording section)
The Bothy Band's ex-sound man/roadie is a good friend of mine and I recently posed the re-formation question to him. Apparently, this was raised in the late 1980s, but, while several band members were in favour, one stuck in his justified oar, asserting that "there's no way that those f****** at that f****** label are getting a penny more out of me!" S/he was basing her view on the resulting sales of The Bothy Band's back catalogue.
I'll leave you guessing re. the identities of those concerned.
Paddy is going to be performing at "my" (I'm a founder of the nonprofit corporation that owns it) coffeehouse on Sunday the 10th (everyone near upstate NY mark your calender, I'll expect to see you there). Oddly enough I can find no information on where any of the other band members will be on that date.
Draw your own conclusions, but I'd turn out for the show if I were you.
Rumours also fly about a Beatles/Relativity joint reunion tour, with guest appearances by Elvis on box and Bird on kazoo.
Upstate's a big place, so I don't know if this'll be close enough for you, but it's Caffe Lena in Saratoga. Patsy O'Brian will be with him.
His only other gig in NY is on the Island, and the next closest is Montreal, so wherever you are it might be worth the trip to either of the northern stops.
There's also The Battlefield Band on the 6th if you're into the Scots thing.
Flash! It is confirmed that Tommy will be on tour in the states at the same time. The possibilities boggle the mind.

Re: Bothy reunion
That's inhumane.
At least you didn't say that they'll be doing it with Tommy Peoples as the fiddler. That truly would have been cruel.

Re: Bothy reunion
How about a Bluegrass-Dylan concert in Dublin with Solas? Is that more believable?

With the money that pub is making, they probably need a new flute player. Matt couldn't afford the drop in salary.

Careful Paul - funny is fine, but watch yourself if you go messing with people's religion...
