I've worked out a couple of tunes that arent here on the session and would like to make them available to you all. I dont have a clue about how to do this. Help!!!
Don't forget to research where "the crap" originated and who was responsible. Also, please state clearly if it was A minor crap or A major load of crap.
Go to http://www.gre.ac.uk/~c.walshaw/abc/ and work through the abc tutorial. Then practice writing out tunes in abcs--*not* on this site. Best bet is to downlaod ABCNavigator or some similar program so you can work on this at your leisure. When you understand how the notation works, then you can post your tunes here.
If abcs are too much bother (it's not hard to learn, but I can understand that some people might not have the time for it), you can send me the sheet music and I'll post them for you. Of course, sending the dots by email can be tricky--you have to have them as a gif or pdf file or some such. Or you can send pages by regular mail. Or find someone closer to you who will translate your dots to abcs for you.

Thanks for taking the post seriously, Will. Unlike the rest of us!
I had first thought it might have been a wind up but maybe not. Anyway, Will's advice is good. You could also read through Jeremy's guidelines in "Frequently asked questions".
I should point out that I'm just greedy--if someone has some tunes that aren't already here, I'd like to see if they're keepers. I'm all for adding to the collection. Kenny, for instance, has sprung some real gems on us that aren't readily found anywhere else. If someone else has good tunes to add, I'd hate to lose them just because the idiosyncracies of abc notation kept them from submitting the tunes.
Jeremy does an excellent job managing and maintaining the tune data base here. Sometimes other priorities slow him down a bit, but he always takes care of any problems.
Sure there are some weak settings of tunes in here, just as there are weak settings played in the real world. But the comment threads allow for submitting other settings and a wealth of information about the tunes that's lacking in most other tune collections, online or in print.
So we've got a great collection going here, with a good librarian at the helm. All the more reason to protect it from less experienced contributors whose enthusiasm outweighs their skill or sense of discretion in posting tunes.
No disagreement here. My two last musical album fixations have been "Give Us a Penny and We'll Be Gone" by Teada and my rediscovered "Windy Gap" by Laurence Nugent. I had no problem accessing tunes on both albums, which is amazing. Jeremy's doing a great job.
" I had no problem accessing tunes on both albums"...
Why would you have problems accessing tunes on albums? Isn't that why they are made - so you can hear the tunes on them?

Re: Trying to present tunes here
Go to "submit tune" and write a load of crap in the box. That's what most people do these days. Sorry

Sounds like a process is needed to maintain a good archive, sort of like an Editor.

Will: you are the voice of reason in the midst of a cr*p storm. May th' farce be wi' ya!
