accomodations in dublin

Greetings all!

I'm not sure if this has been discussed here or not--apologies if it already has been.

I've received a cultural grant from the Milwaukee Irish Fest and I"m going to be researching some topics (trad songs from a women's point of view, and "lost playing traditions" (eg. i think it's fascinating that the fiddlers placed spoons over their instrument's f-holes to produce a sound similar to that of pipes...). I'm wondering if any of you have recommendations for low-cost accommodation in Dublin (I'll be there for approx 2 weeks in late June and mid July.) Have you stayed with people? At hostels? Hotels? Has anyone tried renting for a short period of time?

Thanks for the Input!
:-)

Re: accomodations in dublin

Hi there :) Well that sounds like amazing stuff, I'd be really interested to hear about what you find out.
Trish and I are staying in Dublin International Youth Hostel in a couple of days time (we're going over to see Dervish) and although I've not been there before, I've heard it's a good hostel.
Good luck with your research, as I said it sounds really interesting!!

Contact Bernard O Sullivan at Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann
32 Belgrave Square, Monkstown Co. Dublin. You will find lodgings there, or next door is a hostel. You will also find a huge archive of traditional Irish songs and music, complete with history and a good session. Tell Bernard that fleadhman sent you.
Good luck.

Re: accomodations in dublin

The fiddlers may have told you they placed spoons over their instrument's f-holes to produce a sound similar to that of pipes - in fact it was just to liberate them from the spoon players...
