The very best wishes to you all for St. Patrick's Day (especially including Michael Gill and Bodhran Bliss from our recent 120 plus post verbal tsunami called "Coming Out").

I live in Ireland. It's not a big thing here.

Why should it be? he wasn't even Irish after all...

Re: Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig!

What was he?

Re: Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig!

Best guess is from southern Britain. He was captured by marauding Celts and put to work as a herdsman in northern Ireland. Escaped and took to the cloth in France or Belgium. The history is old enough to be more legend than fact, but that's the gist of it.

Re: Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig!

The only country in the world with people called Patrick, apart from the infiltrated Irish, is France. Probably kidnapped there by the good old Niall of the Nine Hostages.

Re: Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig!

By the gods, here I've been believing all those Canadians, Americans, Australians and Brits who tell me their name is Patrick.

Re: Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig!

French and Irish Canadians, Irish Aussies, Yanks and Brits. That's what I meant about the infiltrated Irish. Better call it the diaspora.

All Irish descent.

Re: Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig!

Unless they are Vietnamese which could make them French, or related to "Irish" GI's from the war.
