A word of thanks to Mike

A word of thanks to Mike

Hi folks. Some of you may remember that I enquired about a session in Bilbao recently. Well Mike Murphy who runs the session over there made me feel very welcome and I'd like to use this forum to say a big Thank-you , Muchas gracias and Eskerrik Ask to him and all of his friends who looked after me, especially Charlie and Richard George (or MacSeoirse). Mike, thanks again; hope to be back some time when the sesh starts up again later in the year! Loved the music, will say hello to Mick for you.

Agur

Re: A word of thanks to Mike

Hello
Do u ever be back in Belfast much?
There was a great session in the Duke last night - the place was packed as usual.
What are the sessions like in London?

Thanks Conan, it was a pleasure to meet you and hear you playing. Sorry I couldn´t make the Saturday gig. I think it was Dave who mentioned on the original thread about meeting up with people you´ve only had -electronic- contact with on the site (or something like that) and it´s really cool to be able to play a tune with them. I hope, eventually, to meet and play with Zina, Will, Brad and all the other sessioneers on the other side of the pond. I´m usually in Clare for the second half of August and take in the Mrs Crotty conceertina festival in Kilrush, the Feakle festival (if the dates coincide) and sundry sessions in and around Ennis. If anybody from The Session spots me tinkling away on the cocertina at any of these venues, you won´t get a prize but I´ll buy you a pint - or two..
Hope to see you soon Conan,
Slán, Mike

Ooo, yes, Mike, it'd be grand to have a few tunes, though I suspect you'd have lots more fun playing with Will or Brad than me. Let's. :) I've a friend headed over for the festival in Feakle, a bodhran player name of Nancy Fithian, so if you happen to spot her (grayish hair, big eyes, Yank accent, she and her ma are headed over for the festival) please introduce yourself so you'll have yet another reason to head Stateside...

Hi Mike
Cheers for the tunes. I was talking to Charlie - it looks like I won't be able to make it to France after all but I'm already looking at the chances of going back to Spain for another visit. Actually, I might catch you in Ireland in August - I'll head over with Sheena and Greg, the folk you met who are also living in London, if I can.

Hope to catch up with you again,

Slán go fóill

Hi Michele

How're you doing? I'm surprised we haven't met before as I usually get back to Belfast at least once a month, although I've only been to a sesh a few times in the Duke. Did you meet Barry Kerr? Can't remember if he's still on tour or not. Ruadhrai O'Kane and Donal O'Connor sometimes play there too on fiddle and Brendan Quinn on guitar...
Well, since I can't make it to foreign climes this week, I'll be back in Belfast on Friday night, for the weekend. Usually play in the Hercules (Castle Street) on Friday and Saturday, so maybe if you fancy popping along I can promise you a pint (especially since they're free!!). The session doesn't start until ten or so - there's one in Madden's around in Rosemary Street which starts earlier. The pace is a bit mad but the craic is good. You are right about the cliques in Belfast sessions, but they don't tend to be as prevalent among the younger players. I assume you've been to the John Hewitt? I'll say no more...
:¬)

All the best, maybe see you next weekend.
