im thinking of drones for my pipes...and i was wondering about the different makers. is it alright to mix diff. chanters with different regs./drones...
i currently have a seth gallagher practice set and will probably be getting the rest of the set from him anyway. just looking for some other opinions...
Personally, i would like to have the set as complete from one maker as possible. Voicing the whole set is a good reason for one person who knows what/how things behave. Having said that, the $ exchange rate is so abysmal right now, there is no way in creation I could get a set of regs to go with my 1/2 set. Also a few pipe makers won't do any work on a set if the original maker is still working.
Don't even think of drones till you have some playing time, much less regs. Of course, who am I to lust after some regs with my skill level??? Do as i write, not as I play!!!
I would stick with Seth; I've got my eyes on a full set from one of our club memebers-anyone have around $4K to "loan"?
I'd go with Seth too if I were you. Easier to have them worked on, repaired, re-reeded if need be. Anyways, from what I've seen and heard, all aspects of Seth's work are impeccable. Good luck with your decision.
I think it looks nice to have a set that has a cohesive appearance, but as far as mixing and matching I see no reason why you couldn't or shouldn't do it, especially if you get a really nice deal on a set of drones.
thanks for the responeses....i know im going to get the rest of my set from seth. i was just looking for some further opinions... The thing im after is sound- kind of a Seamus Ennis sound, powerful yet not too loud.
yes , im learning from David Power here in Jersey.
