Chicago Irish Folk-Punk Band looking for a st. pat's gig!

Chicago Irish Folk-Punk Band looking for a st. pat's gig!

oi! well, of course, with no one else to whom to turn, i turn to the immense wisdom of thesession. particularly, you irish types in chicago. but anywho, i am the singer in my band (you may have guessed, given the thread title, that it is a band of the irish folk-punk persuasion). Were on about the same intensity level as the pogues (but i'm not comparing us to the almighty pogues!), and we're just ready to get out there and start getting gigs. we do mostly pub-song-type stuff, and i have no idea where to look for st. pat's. do any of you chicago folk have any suggestions as to where to inquire (not necessarily irish pubs, but anywhere), or know of a place looking for some march 17 entertainment? thanks, and sorry for being a spaz! i just want to make it happen, is all.

I'm not from Chicago, but it's a little late in the season to start looking for P-Day gigs. They're usually all sewn up by now, but good luck.

Are you kidding me? We're still getting bookings trickling in (mostly from increasingly desperate bar owners). We're even still getting requests for St. Pat's Day itself. As if.

They must move awfully slow in Denver I guess. ;-)

Same story over here every year Jack! Many publicans and hotel owners only seem to discover the existence of trad 10 days or so before the 17th.

Very true Bannerman, "let' s all jump on the bandwagon and cash in". After St Paddy's Day most of them don't want to know you.

Jack's mostly right. Here in Chicago the *good* gigs, as well as the top musicians, are booked wwaayyy in advance, sometimes years.

That being said, I got called last St. Pat's Day at 2:00 pm for a 6:00-8:00 opening act slot at one of the top music clubs. Sweet!!!

That reminds me, I need to make some phone calls....

James, do you know of any "irish by name only" pubs in your area that might support a bit of music? Like Sandy says, I am sure the regular places are booked. But any old pub might be interested in some music, especially if they are having a party either on the 17th, or even on the 12th. Isn't the parade on the 12th?

At this point, your only alternative may be to play at some place that does not normally have music.

And oh yeah, call a couple of places that do book your type of music regularly. Sometimes when bar owners are thinking about booking some music for Paddy's, they call the bar managers that regularly book the stuff for advice and possible contacts.
