Fiddle Teacher for Salt Spring Island.

Fiddle Teacher for Salt Spring Island.

Is there anybody out there who would be interested in teaching fiddle/violin on
Salt Spring Island in British Columbia, Canada? We have a group of 35 students in
all stages of ability and a waiting list of 10 or more. Our current teacher is
changing focus at the end of June and will be doing special projects and
travelling more. She doesn't intend to return to full-time teaching.
The ideal teacher for our group would be someone who has had classical training
and experience playing traditional music professionally or semi-professionally and
who is now looking for a place to settle down. They should probably be able to play the piano as well as the fiddle/violin. The teaching cycle tracks the school year, since most of the students are school age; that's from September to June each year. There are some group lessons and a handful of older (if not necessarily mature!) students.

Our Island has a full-time population of about 12,000 and a summer population of 15,000 or more. It is regarded as one of the best places in Canada to live. We are an hour from Victoria and about 3 hours from Vancover with easy air access to the west coast of North America.

We're putting together a committee to search for a teacher but I thought
I'd post it here first.

Re: Fiddle Teacher for Salt Spring Island.

Any Irish music festivals up that way that may be worth going to?

Re: Fiddle Teacher for Salt Spring Island.

Hi 23. There is an annual Celtic Festival (not strictly irish) in March sometime which is hosted by a different island each year. I haven't heard the details for this year yet. It's very low key with probably about 50-60 attendees but we have a good time. If you're interested I'll send you details when they are available.
