I'm planning a trip to to Ireland for the first 2 weeks of October of this year . At this point I can be flexible about where and when within these 2 weeks but am visiting in Cork , Kerry and the West, possibly Sligo and possibly Belfast. I can find the sessions through that function here as well as through the Members function. I'm asking if anyone can suggest any festivals , e.g., the Feile Frank McGann in Strokestown, Co, Roscommon. Is this a good time, good workshops(flute, mando and primarily concertina). Any others like it?
Would 2 weeks earlier or 2 weeks later be better in terms of catching a good time? Or, am I better off ID'g the best regular sessions and work my itinerary to fit these as best I can? I'm hoping to avoid the summer tourists and still catch decent weather( a trick any time in Ireland outside summer). I was over last year in November and manged to hit some very nice sessions with a liitle homework both from here as well as "in country".
The Eddie Duffy and Mick Hoy Memorial festival in Derrygonnelly in Fermanagh is absolutely fantastic. A crowd of us have been going for years and it's one of the best festivals on the circuit.
A lot of festivals seem to take place over the bank holiday weekend late in October. For instance the Patrick O'Keeffe festival in Castleisland (which I can certainly recommend).
The list of festivals below is out of date, but gives an idea of what's likely to be on:
There's a great festival in Belfast that runs for the whole month of October. Check out last octobers lineup at www.openhousefestival.com
this years lineup is guaranteed to be as good, if not even better.
There's a great festival in north county Dublin, round the bank holiday weekend in October, Scoil Sheamuis Ennis in Naul. It's small and the sessions are great. Always a great line up for workshops too.

It will probably be on the 7th - 9th October.

Ennis has a festival in November - Jack posted a few field reports of the last one. Sounded like a lot of fun.
