TTCT: is it worth it?

TTCT: is it worth it?

What do you think about the TTCT course offered by Comhaltas? Has anyone taken it ? And has it provided you a valuable experiance as a trad. teacher?

What is TTCT?

Re: TTCT: is it worth it?

It's the diploma course offered for music teachers by Comhaltas. From what I've been told, you go to Dublin for a week, take classes, demonstrate you can teach a student and then take an ear training exam.

I'm curious to know more.

Re: TTCT: is it worth it?

I've done it and believe that it makes one more acceptable to a lot of people who look for some kind of registration before allowing their littleJohnney/Lolie spend time with a complete stranger. Also, it means there is at least some control over teachers, those that pass on-the music.

Re: TTCT: is it worth it?

I've heard that there have been some great tutors on this course such as Johnny Connolly, Brian McGrath, Steve Cooney, Kathleen Nesbitt just to name a few. According to the Comhaltas magazine Treoir over 500 teachers have taken the course so if there are any of you out there (thank you Peter) , please give your opinions.

Re: TTCT: is it worth it?

I think you're right Peter; although there are loads of great teachers and players that aren't TTCT certified, I think it probably appeals to the general public.

I've been to the website and it doesn't tell much of what you do for the week or the expectations of the final exam. I'm over here in America and don't know anyone that's taken it. I'd really appreciate some further details.

I wrote the head office and hopefully that will help as well.

Breandan- ear training involves things like hearing intervals, and listening to music and writing writing it into notation without the use of your instrument. My question is how much of this is there at the training and exam??
