*Well, today (23rd), we've got a great big howling, honking blizzard outside: winds gusting up to 50-60 mph, 2 to 3 _feet_ of snow expected, white-out conditions. In fact, the local National Weather Service affiliate issued a warning that people should not venture outdoors at all today. Good enough for me. Hopefully later on, I can get the missus to break out her Appalachian dulcimer and we'll have an all-too-rare session just 'tween the two of us.
(And if the snow and wind's abated by early evening, I plan to plod a few blocks over to a friend's house so I can watch the Patriots-Steelers game.)
Anyone ever been stranded by weather at a session or music party? To me, that would -- theoretically -- be a great time, unless of course said event had an excess of shaky-eggers or tone-deaf singers.
*A follow-up on the recent post containing the link to the Kennedy Center performance of the Wrigley Sisters (who, as advertised, are brilliant musically and also hysterically funny: I liked the description of how they use cats to measure wind speed in the Orkneys). I know there are a couple of other Irish/Scots traditional music concerts, including one with Johnny Cunningham, available through the Kennedy Center Web site, but when I did a search I didn't find 'em (in fact, I didn't even see the Wrigleys' concert -- I just used the link given in the earlier discussion). Anyone else had this problem?
You don'tt search for a particular artist from here. Instead, you narrow down the three categories at the top and then click on search. The category would obviously be "Music". Select "Europe" for the second then a country if you want it that specific. You can leave the year at "All" .
There really are a host of wonderful shows on this site. Some examples:
Capercaillie
Old Blind Dogs
Flook
Dervish (2 shows)
Lunasa
Ale Bain & Ale Moller
Phil & Johnny Cunningham
Shooglenifty
The Wrigley Sisters (2 shows)
The Battlefield Band
Kevin Burke
Danu
Sharon Shannon
and many others

If you use this link it should take you to the performance archive. You can search by keyword or monthly etc.

Re: Snowbound/Kennedy Center Web site question
You can't use their normal search function. You have to use a special one that searches their performance archives.

Re: Snowbound/Kennedy Center Web site question
Followed the link tonight and there was Hanneke Cassel, January 24.
18" inches of snow here and some 60 cm at the coast.
and the Pats victorious.
Ahh, New England.
