Hi.. just wondering if anyone has a little space to put up some tracks for me.. i will get some of my soon but I don't have any at the moment. I have 3 tracks, they're about 1.5 mb each.. just some guitar demos I'd like some opinions on. Any help would be appreciated.. thanks
Thanks everyone who offered space. Jim's the first to give me an actual address to send my stuff to, so I guess we have a winner. I'll send a couple files when I get home from work, Jim, thanks.
no sweat Kerri! what's up with not being able to post more than ONE discussion a day?? "Sorry sir you can only say one thing today.. save it for tomorrow" That's a little ridiculous I think..
Keeps people from getting carried bailing out on their own conversations when they don't like how they're going to start a new one complaining about how the last one went. (Or at least in *theory* one would think it would do this...)
Also, it keeps there from being five jillion threads a day. Do what the rest of us do. Take a thread, any thread, and just talk about whatever you like on it regardless of the subject.
ok, well instead of waiting until tomorrow to post my links, i'll do it riiiight here.
Keep in mind a few things... i recorded these on my laptop with a sony mic from Best Buy.. i'm not a guitar player, i just like playing it.. and they're a little rough in spots. but they're just demos for my album, which will be a lot of whistle/flute, and a little guitar
Well done, Matt. I think those sound pretty damn good. I never could play to those click track thingies myself. (As you will soon see if I get my stuff online.) I like the harmony at the end of the "reel" track. I think if you get it tightened up a little and bring the melody forward a hair you're halfway to being JP Cormier. Except in a more relaxed, easy going kind of a way.
(Not that JP Cormier isn't relaxed, he just plays fast. Or maybe he isn't relaxed. Hard to tell. If I had to find an adjective, I'd use "stoic", or possibly "impassive"... )
I find it scary that someone who plays as well as you do should call themselves as "not a guitar player". It doesn't make those of us who do call themselves guitarists look good!!
Love to hear any more recordings that you might have done.
I agree with Kerri's suggestions about bringing up the melody - also, and this is probably only a case of recording and listening to yourself over and over a few times - getting used to what the mic picks up, it might be an idea to concentrate on bringing out some of the finer bits you've thrown in, like the harmonics in the jig.
haha well thanks guys.. i appreciate all of your comments..
the mic I used was a little Sony ECM-MS907, one yuo'd use for a minidisc or something.. it was 99.00. The program I used was Cool Edit Pro 2.1, and i don't have any digital interfaces, I just plugged the mic into the 1/4" microphone input beside the input jack
Thanks for the tune names... i've known them since I was 10 but never knew the names!! I'm bad like that.
I'll start work on the whistle demos this weekend hopefully.. gotta play around with it.
thanks Jim. Won't be able to get to it until Monday - too busy playing tunes in Toronto. I'll put a link to my website on my profile soon, so keep your eyes all peeled if you want to hear some angsty songs of my own creation, sloppily recorded. :^)
well i don't consider myself a guitar player..But thanks!!
i just started playing it a lot lately with this album work.. I've had it since I was 14 or so i guess, just fooling around here and there for 10 years..
I want to be able to play everything on the album myself... I've got another track done now with whistles, guitars and 5 string banjo on it... just have to put it up..

Wow. I really like that - good going, Mattrick.

Right, now... whistle clips please!

Blimey, that's really good. Absolutely. I'm impressed. You're not a guitar player? Okay. I'm off to learn to play bones. Or tambourine.
