Can anyone recommend a good summer school guitar workshop in the UK or Ireland? There seem to be plenty options for melody instrument players but not so much for those of us interested in the art of accompaniment.
Dennis Cahill did some worships in Feakle last year, not sure of the line up this year - see www.feaklefestival.ie - I couldn't make it last time but I would go if he was there again this year.
I hope to go to the Sorefingers school at Easter - see www.sorefingers.co.uk - it's strictly bluegrass (I like it but others may not), a week with John Moore is bound to be good for any guitarist.
Anyone got any other idea's?
The Folkworks summer schools are very good (and extremely funny, well the younger one I went to was halarious, don't know about the adult one).
The website is www.folkworks.co.uk
Oh, and they're in Durham.
The SCAT workshops up in Aberdeen have just what you want in terms of course material and tuition, however they take place once weekly during term time. I guess you are looking more for a concentrated residential type thingy.
Thanks for all your suggestions ( apart from you Donough - who in their right mind's would consider going half way round the world for a guitar workshop....ahem!).
Bren, thanks for the SCAT suggestion. As an exiled Aberdonian it strikes me as somewhat ironic. Nevertheless I will be up in late Jan for the Lunasa workshop that is being organised by SCAT. Perhaps I'll see you there or at the gig the day before?
Skye and Feakle look very interesting. I will check those out.
