You're a great group of people and I truly appreciate your helpful answers to my questions and most of all your humor.

Re: Merry Christmas!

I was going to say that it isn't Christmas yet but, of course, it is for many of you. It's been so in Australia for several hours--not that Dow needs an excuse to celebrate. :-) and it should be in most of the States by now too.
So Merry Christmas to one and all.

Re: Merry Christmas!

Christmas morning, the only morning I ever get up early. No presents underneath my 1ft high flashing fibre optic tree this morning but I'm too busy to open presents anyway - I have several parties to go to and lots of alcohol to get through so I'd better get started! Happy Xmas everyone!

Have the best of all possible holidays, everyone, and many wishes for a tuneful new year! (Please God, let it be better than the last one. ;)

Re: Merry Christmas!

Priecīgus Ziemassvētkus!

Admittedly, I'm Jewish, but most Latvian-speakers are not. Anyway, the second bit translates as 'winter festival' - nothing about any son of God in there.

p.s. Len - what language is that?

Merry Christmas to All...

Re: Merry Christmas!

Here's a little Cowboy & Western ditty I penned some years ago that captures the true meaning of Christmas:

The Christmas Tree Song

*Sing with a country twang at a moderate and sentimental tempo
(abcs for the melody are below)

About the middle of December
towards the end of every year
you have to buy a Christmas Tree
for Yuletide family cheer
so I got myself a chainsaw
and rented a parking lot
and off into the woods I go
with this merry Christmas thought

(chorus) I think I'll...
kill some trees for Jesus
cut 'em down and let them fall
put them in a parking lot
to sell to one and all
you can take one home and put it up
and decorate it nice
I'll kill some trees for Jesus
if you will pay the price

You know it really doesn't matter
that the price is very high
just like our savior Jesus
for you these trees will die
a cross is nailed onto it
so it stands up on your floor
and when the sap has all run dry
just throw it out the door

(chorus) I think I'll...

I'll even flock it if you want it
pink orange red white or blue
to me it doesn't matter
the color's up to you
and if my profit's big enough
when Christmas time is here
I'll kill more trees for Jesus
when I come back next year

all together now
I think I'll....

Re: Merry Christmas!

Jack is there not a B-part? I'm in full song here and you've left me hanging on the last note and I'm running out of breath waiting for the next bit. Do we go straight into "Christmas Eve" after it?

Re: Merry Christmas!

I mean the chorus - it wants to go into C doesn't it? Like d2e2g|e3d e2f2|g2g4e2|d...

Merry Christmas, (belated) Happy Hannukah, Happy Yule, Happy Kwanzaa, or just generally have a grand time whatever holiday you celebrate this time of year!

Re: Merry Christmas!

You're a star, Janek!

So far we've had a nice wee family time with some neighbour friends, exchanging presents, had a takeaway curry meal and nice beers and wine, no Irish music played, but we had Tom Verlaine's Television - Marquee Moon on, and the Zutons, and other stuff of that ilk playing. I don't think I know any actual Christmas greetings, but in reference to the feed in front of us, I can quote a wee bit of Rabbie Burns (another Rab!):

Some hae meat
but cannae eat.
Some hae nane but waant it.
But we hae meat.
And we can eat,
So let the Lord be thankit.

So, what's a rabbi doing composing Christmas verse, already?

Re: Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to one and all and wishing you all a Happy New Year!!

It is amazing how you can feel you know so many people well when you have never really met any of them. Where ever you are celebrating the holidays this year I am sure they will be good.

And don't let Judaism stand in the way of a fun Christmas - I have one Jewish friend who has been counting the days off on an advent calender!!

Re: Merry Christmas!

Dow, there is no "B" part. You play the back-up with a sultry cowboy-swing and interpret the sentimental verses with a sexy swagger to your friends and family at Christmas time. Then you enjoy the warm Christmas magic that it conjures up on their faces and everyone drinks eggnog and relaxes with visions of chainsaws and cash registers in their heads. If you want to go into a tune afterwards -- it's up to you man.
