ABC format

ABC format

You guys and gals are all such experts - I just play ITM and love it. I have a few nice little tunes I think I'd like to contribute, but I don't know how to write them out right. How about a crash course in ABC? I'd really appreciate it. Cheers

I recommend you go to the links section on this board and go to the ABC homepage where there are tutorials you can download.
also at this site http://www.gre.ac.uk/~c.walshaw/abc2mtex/abc.txt there are nine pages you can print out as an explanation.

Re: ABC format

Thanks Donnchad, I have printed off your link. Got so wound-up with the discussions I hadn't explored the links. Just thought I was backward for never having come across ABC before. Give's a few days then I'll try and post some ITM tunes from down under.
Cheers

Re: ABC format

I have downloaded the GhostView software as suggested by the abc homepage, but I still am confused as to how you go about translating abc format into sheet music.
How do you actually do this? (I am using a PC, running Win98.)

djpb:
I use abcmidifier software which will save to midi format (.mid file). then I use quickscore elite (now published by voyetra / turtle beach ) to edit or convert the midi file. quickscore will print sheet music from midi file. -steve
