Fiddle chinrest and tailpiece

Fiddle chinrest and tailpiece

I bought a new fiddle this weekend at an excellent price. The chinrest and tailpiece that are on it are the black plastic variety but I would like to change these out for something more unique. Does anyone know of a place to get chinrests or tailpieces made of exotic woods? I think something like cocobolo would be ideal because the picture that I've seen of it is somewhat dark and the pattern is very unpredictable (which is what I'm looking for). So if any of you happen to know of any websites, I'd be glad if you'd pass those along. Thanks.

Re: Fiddle chinrest and tailpiece

P.S. I don't want any carvings or inlays. Just straight wood.

Your local violin specialist retailer or luthier is your best bet, but what you're looking for can also be found online at some place like sharmusic.com

Ebay. but make sure that you're not allergic to any of those interesting woods first. :)

Check out:

They have a nice selection of ebony, rosewood, and boxwood fittings - carved and plain.
