I've been searching for some good fast Mandolin tunes to further build my library of known "ripping" songs. Any help would be appreciated especially if there were a couple in Em (besides drowsy maggie). Thanks a bunch.
A good bet would be Paul Kelly's 'A Mandolin Album' which has a pretty wide variety of tunes. Unfortunately, I'm not sure whether Paul's own Malgamu Music label, which released the album is still operating. You might have to track down a secondhand copy.
In general, I think almost any tune that rips works on the mandolin. Tunes in A can make great use of the open E and A strings for some mandolin hyjinks. Mason's Apron and Boys of Malin for example. Have fun.
Drops of Brandy, which I think is technically an English song, but I've heard many a celtic mandolinist play it. it works very well on the mandolin. Ofcourse The Irish Washerwoman, which is definately English, but still.
Have a look at the Mandolin Cafe site for some ideas. http://www.mandolincafe.com/tabarc.html
Also, if you use tablature, our very own Aiden Cossey has his own tune of mandolin tunes.
Try this website www.abacci.com There are many tabs for mandolin tunes there.... go to the music link and click on it, you should find quite a few that you'd like.
They also have music for harmonica and cello arrangements, too.
I would have suggested that but I thought it was too obvious.
Actually, tunes can sound good on a variety of instruments. They don't have to be specifically composed for (or on) the mandolin or anything else.

Cup o' Tea. Trip to Durrow.
There aren't mandolin tunes that rip--there are tunes that rip, and what you rip it with is up to you.
Until those who play real instruments ask you to go away. ;)
