Editing Software

Editing Software

Hya

I figure this has probably been discussed time and time again, but I've only been able to dig up past discussions on ABC software and MD stuff.

I have lots of mp3's of bits of sessions, tunes friends have recorded for me etc... I want to be able to edit these on the computer rather than editing them on my md before I upload them.

Question: What's the best software?

Cheers much

Re: Editing Software

The free (as in speech) program Audacity is very good. It will take anything from your soundcard and output this as mp3, etc. It has full editing capabilities. I've used it quite a bit and find it excellent.

Re: Editing Software

I've used audacity, and found it very capable. Hard to argue with the price, as well.

Re: Editing Software

If your recodings are in mp3 files, mp3directcut will edit, adjust volume without having to convert them to wave form and back again with consequent quality losses.
Available free from http://www.mpesch3.de/. I also use audacity for wave files and more complicated adjustments.

Re: Editing Software

If you want a power tool use Cool Edit.

If you want to 'clean' the sounds you're recording:

Wave Lab / Sound Forge / Cool Edit Pro - but pricey... Sibelius Clean and WaveLab Essentials are cheaper options. The 'Clean' comes with a basic WaveLab editing feature. CoolEdit also has lesser pricey alternatives.

One recommended as accessible by the blind community, shareware, is GoldWave.

Re: Editing Software

Thanks for all these suggestions guys. Now that I've got some names I'll be able to check them out and see which one suits me.
Cheers again

Re: Editing Software

Thank you so much for the info re: Audacity. A friend dropped by last eve and we had great fun with it. Great way to learn a new tune- fabulous that you can slow it down without changing the pitch :)

Re: Editing Software

Glad to be able to spread the word. Those guys write that software for free so credit should be given when its good. Same kind of philosophy as traditional music.

Re: Editing Software

Cool Edit is now being sold as Adobe Audition. Faaaaantastic program.

Re: Editing Software

Q, ah! that explains why I haven't been receiving any Cool Edit 2000 update information from Syntrillium for some time. Not that I need any updates, my copy of Cool Edit 2000 (with a few add-ons) does everything I require and is really the audio equivalent of a first class word processor.
I haven't checked, but I'll wager Adobe Audition is now a bit pricey!
