Don't you just love it when ..........

Don't you just love it when ..........

the better half is away over the weekend, and the plan is just to go to bed early (for no reason in particular),and then.....a pal is in town, unplanned, and an impromptu session is set up, in the bar a hundred and fifty yards down the road?

Snorre wishing all sessioneers a lovely weekend, full of tunes.

I must live a sheltered life. My principal session IS about 150 metres away. The Good Lady is, if not understanding (which she is), at least compliant (in this matter, anyway!)

Have fun, snorre!

Re: Don't you just love it when ..........

Snorre,

Glad you had a great weekend. How are things in Oslo? I've been playing regularly both in North Dakota (when at work) and in the Twin Cities. Lots of sessions there, and dances too! Saw Lillebjørn Nielsen Friday night doing a concert here while you were there doing your unexpected session. He did a nice job, except for forgetting his words (to his own songs) 3 or 4 times. He even did one tune on the Hardingfele which he says he plays on stage only in North America, not in Norway.

BTW, what bar is 150 yards down the road that tolerates wild ITM? Or have you moved? Say hi to the gang in Oslo, and let me know what's going on. If you have any gossip, probably better sent in an e-mail rather than this public forum.

And, lest this seem too personal, John J, the 55-65 kroner pipes help one avoid alcoholism.

"55-65 kroner *pipes*"? Tom, do you smoke weed in those to avoid alcoholism? :-)
Don't get me wrong. I love Norway and Scandinavia(esp Denmark) in general. The beer is expensive but that's a small price to pay for being over there. Anyway, I don't drink as much these days for it to make a significant hole in my wallet.

Re: Don't you just love it when ..........

How are things Tom!

The pub down the road is actually a restaurant on Majorstua called "Valkyrien" or "Valka" for short. It is a very old establishment (late 1800s) and features a treat not found in many places : no stereo. We ask the punters if it's ok, and usually it is. Also this session was as much 'Wegian , Swedish, Quebecois, etc as Irish.

Had a brilliant Saturday night, as me and Audun ventured into the murky world of Urban norwegian Traditioal Music, Saturday being the date for the Oslokappleik (Oslo Fleadh). We missed the competitions, but made it to the Party. Still got strigburns on my left fingertips......

Take care Tom, and keep posting.

Re: Don't you just love it when ..........

John J,

Of course, I meant "pints" not "pipes." Wasn't smoking, just up too late. Or maybe it was a freudian slip regarding the value of pipes.

Snorre,

I've been to that restuarant, to eat. Would love to play some tunes there with you next summer. Best to Audun and the gang.
