Now its getting colder and damper here in the UK (its nearly winter tha nose), I get some pain and stiffness,(in my fingers!),due to arthritis.Has anyone out there tried a copper bracelet around their wrist to help relieve the symptoms.?
Tom Napper,(mandolinist from Yorkshire wears one.)
I've also seen magnets incorporated into them. Do they work?
Tried tablets but they upset my guts.
Re: Copper Bracelets do you wear one for arthritis?
I'm going to see Tom Napper tonight. Will I ask him, if I get the chance? Actually, he's a great tenor banjo player too. Hope he does some of tonight.
Cod liver oil is good for stiff joints. I don't get arthritis, though I do suffer from gout sometimes and, if I get it in my wrist(s), it can be painful to play for a couple of days.
Re: Copper Bracelets do you wear one for arthritis?
I saw him in Whitby this year at a mandolin workshop,he wears a bracelet on both wrists.
I'm recovering from a carpal tunnel syndrome operation I had done 3 weeks ago,and its still bloody sore.
Re: Copper Bracelets do you wear one for arthritis?
John's right about the cod liver oil. It's done my pore aik'n fingers a world of good; this after I scoffed, yes, scoffed at the notion that fish juice could *possibly* do anything other than smell funny.
You get 'em in little capsules, so you don't get the unfortunate taste.
Re: Copper Bracelets do you wear one for arthritis?
Meself Stewpot, took to taking Chondroitin and Glucosamine tablets and found it helped the joints a treat, with no effect on the innards. The proof came when I was so preoccupied with surgery earlier this year that I forgot to take them - the achy breaky knees started to hurt within a couple of weeks.
Must go now as the Fat Bloke has arrived with some work.
Re: Copper Bracelets do you wear one for arthritis?
Stewpot, you might want to check yourself for food reactions. I had arthritis-like symptoms for a couple of years, and when I was diagnosed with dairy allergy and eliminated dairy, darned if the "arthritis" didn't go too. A friend of mine gets the same from eating tomatoes. It's far from the only cause, but it is sometimes a cause.
Re: Copper Bracelets do you wear one for arthritis?
I wear copper bracelets with embedded magnets in'em and they do seem to help me. I also highly recommend yoga or some other form of strengthening/lengthening excercise to keep joints limber and open...
Re: Copper Bracelets do you wear one for arthritis?
I wear copper bracelts but they do no good whatsoever - but i like the way they look anyway. if you are after cheap supplements like chondroitin etc, the best place to go it Healthspan. They are based in the Channel islands so everything is much cheaper than you get in health food shops here and they do mail order. They have a catalogue they can send to you and also do internet ordering. You have to make sure you are taking clinically significant doses of all these things as sometimes the dose on the label does not do the job so well. Check with a physio about this. Also, adding Devil's Claw can also help a bit. Mind you, so can having 6 pints and then you can't feel any pain anyway. : )
Re: Copper Bracelets do you wear one for arthritis?
Acupuncture would be worth trying. As for the bracelet, I started wearing the magnet (not copper) bracelet to see if it would help the pain that was developing in my left wrist from excessively playing the accoridon, but I have to remove it off when playing because it gets in the way, but otherwise I wear it all day long, and it seems to have helped. I don't know how much of it is the placebo effect, though. I got mine at the sporting goods section at Walmart for less than $6, and it looks fine and is comfortable, so I keep it on.
Re: Copper Bracelets--Seem To Help Both Respiratory and Thumb
The week after Christmas 2004, I started wearing a thin copper bracelet, made by a former coworker, on my right wrist.
In the ensuing 2 weeks I have not had any respiratory problems, though most of my coworkers and friends have been having the flu.
Then I transferred the copper bracelet onto the left arm, the one whose hand has had that top-of-the-thumb-joint pain for months. Within hours, the pain stopped. But my right hand started tingling and getting numb at the tops and tips of the fingers. So I transferred the bracelet back to the right arm.
The tingling in the right hand has not been helped yet, but the left-thumb-joint pain started coming back. So I have gone on line and ordered two cheap thin copper bracelets so that I can have one for each arm and a backup. So far I have not been wearing any bracelets during the night, just when up and awake.
Re magnetic bracelets, which some people tout against arthritic pain, I checked the Web but saw fewer authentic-looking testimonials. I will probably never get one, though, because copper works so well and because when I did try out a magnetic bracelet , it ruined the functioning of my wristwitch.
I see no reason to pay more than about $8 including shipping and handling if you order via the Web. I think buying at local nonchain merchants is best, but right now for me, speed is of the essence, so I am using the Web.

Heard once dehydration gives rise to arthritis, so I'm going down to the pub right now as a precaution . .

Later on though, you'll have just a tiny polite little belch, and think to yourself: "That's odd - I don't remember eating fish".

The Celts wore great golden bracelets round their necks...called torcs, I believe. There might be something in it yet?!
