How to indicate key changes in the middle of a tune?

How to indicate key changes in the middle of a tune?

I'm having trouble figuring out how to do this in abc. Are there any good examples on the site that I could look at?

Thanks.

Just insert another K:

X:1
T:foo
...
K:[first key]
ab|...
K:[second key]
ab|...

Re: How to indicate key changes in the middle of a tune?

In my version of winabc it works best if I insert a shift-enter before and after K:(key), and a bar line afterwords. But then it works like a charm.

What I can't get to work is Part designations. When I put in P:(part letter) I get the abc's for that part rather than the sheet music.

Re: How to indicate key changes in the middle of a tune?

My mate Andy while simultaneously playing his banjo shouts out 'GOAT' for the key of 'G', 'DOG!' for 'D', and APPLE! for 'A', etc. Guitar players seem to like it. Can't remember what he shouts for 'B minor'....

As for me, if I say or shout anything while I'm playing the accordion, my head gets scrambled and my fingers get detached from my brain and the keyboard.

This isn't much help for those of you with ABC problems, but it's shared with you for its own intrinsic worth.

I have had the same trouble with Parts. I usually put the part in text (like a chord) under the first bar.

As we are clever gits, I usually shout three sharps or two flats rather than "Bertie Minor" or "Dennis Flat". Any mention of key signatures also confuses the melodion and guitar players (even more, as they are already dumbfounded).

I heard an apochryphal tale of a band leader who shouted F and the drummer shouted "Eh?" and the band set off in opposite directions.

Re: How to indicate key changes in the middle of a tune?

petemay, i have the same problem with the concertina. if i start to think about something else i just get all scrambled. never mind talk. but with the flute, i cant talk to people, but i can listen, read stuff on the internet, and just be like, "la la la, i like goat cheese". i'm sure i dont sound as good as when i dont do that, but i dont mess up, so to speak.

i think its just the nature of the instruments. because they have a complicated logic system that you gotta really keep straight. when my uncle plays the pipes, his eyes just glaze over.

i cant imagine how some people play pipes and sing! crazy madmen.

Daiv, I think the great majority of musicians are like that - they need 100% concentration on the job in hand when playing.
There are exceptions, though. A boy I was at school with was able to sight-read an orchestral score on the piano and, while he was playing, carry on a conversation with someone. He eventually became, not surprisingly, a concert pianist/organist and head of the Birmingham Conservatoire.
Now it is well-known that women, unlike most men, seem to be genetically able to carry on several different tasks simultaneously, and are often at pains to point this out to us men while they are carrying out said simultaneous tasks :-)
