Anyone interested in private flute/ whistle lessons (any level) in the Philadelphia area? Now’s your chance to learn from an excellent Irish-born fluter! Several people have asked me before over the past two years, but, as I could not commit the time to it, I had to say no. Since the high school dropped my course, believe me I currently have plenty of time. Casting aside any false modesty, I’m a damn good fluter in the so-called northern style. So if you want to learn the flute/ whistle well, or improve any aspect of your playing and have a bit of craic at the same time, email me via this site for more information. The hourly rate would be $40, but I guarantee it will be worth it. Please pass the word to anyone else you think might be interested.
I've been waiting the last hour or two for this post...
Let me be the first... I know LongNote well, and he speaketh the truth: He is a damn fine fluter and whistle player. I've had the pleasure of sharing many chunes with him at sessions and in my kitchen, and they don't come much better.
Anybody within spittin' distance of Our Fair Fluffya would do well to catch up with Mr. Note and learn a thing or five. Bring a good instrument, a fast ear, and thick skin. Oh, and bringing a couple of growlers to the first lesson would go far to engratiate the student to himself....
Thanks for the ringing endorsement, Darin. The only better recommendation I can imagine would be if Jaysus himself showed up at the door "D" whistle in hand. Your family and cat will now be released unharmed at the agreed location.
I'm long overdue for a trip to Philly.... glad I had a chance to pop on here, LongNote, what a great opportunity! One more reason to pop up besides seeing Andee, Jason & Darin. I'll let you know when I have the opportunity, if you'd be so inclined!
Sorry, Danny, it's not yer man... I know the One True Identity of Mr. Note, and am holding fast for the protection of himself and the missus. Lord knows how many irate sessioneers might be waiting at his door in the morning, wanting to settle the score...
I'm definitely intrigued by who LongNote might be. A few of us have had some theories
Once I get back from Ireland and things settle down, I might be up for a road trip down to Philly or a cheap commuter flight. I'd love to see Andee and Jason and Emily if we could coordinate a weekend together. And I'm always up for a flute lesson!
Joyce and Emily... do me a big big favor and give me a few months notice if you're gonna visit. My flute's getting a bit dusty with teaching and grad classes and all, and I don't want to disappoint . Just for the record, I think I know who LongNote is. Anywho, I'm off.
Ok, I'm more or less certain that LongNote is who I think he is. *Very* good flute player, rich ornamentation, very strong delivery. Good individual interpretation of tunes, but not too overpersonal. Knows every tune going. From my brief meeting, he came across as a nice guy, top man, who knew his stuff, and good crack. Does that count as a recommedation?
Ok Jason, I'm hoping to maybe get down there in December or January if all goes well. We'll contact you when we (Andee & Emily) figure out a good weekend.
Hey Jason - can you get up to the Catskills for the Tionol on Halloween weekend? It might be a nice break for you. Emily, Susan, & Conan will be there too!! I'm really looking forward to that!! Don't forget about the flute workshop!!!!
There's no dust on that flute, Jason; some crumbs from fish and chips, maybe, but no dust that I heard...
Hey, Andee:
When all these people come down (all of whom I've never met, as I am Catskill-challenged), I think I should fire-up the grill for one of my long-overdue Fewd-and-Tunage Nights. This time I'll have plenty of rabbit food for you so you're not stuck eating cold tabouli from a tupperware container.
As for this fluter/flautist, make sure he passes on some of his jokes, too; he's a piss! That is, of course, IF it's the person I'm thinking...just make sure he actually HAS weapons of mass destruction before you commit to lessons.
Bejaysus, the pressure is on me now to live up to these recommendations, if indeed I am the person I think you think I am. Also considering doing an intensive all-day (all weekend?) flute/ whistle workshop if a suitable location can be found.
I can sympathize; I often think that I think I am not who I think I am, or thought I was, or think I will be. But hey, I think therefore I am.
But who AM I?
Bejaysus indeed...
Sorry Joyce, can't make it up there. Would love to, but there are just too many factors in my way. Teaching isn't exactly flexible for stuff like that, so thank heavens for summers. Enjoy yourselves though and let me know how it goes... feel free to edit out stuff of course
Danny, thanks a lot for the input. Much appreciated. So far, however, no interest. Maybe a TV campaign is the answer -- "I am LongNote and I approve of this message".

Good Luck and Best Wishes, sincerely hoping you can get this thing off the ground.
