Hi, I am a fiddler and am looking for people in this area to get together and play Irish music. I can't always make it to sessions. I was hopig for an informal "kitchen party" or something similar.
There are quite a few "house party"-type sessions that go on in the Boston area, in addition to those you find in the pubs. As you build contacts throughout the music community, you're bound to get an invitation thrown your way, and sometimes folks -- those with big enough space, anyway -- will extend a "come-all-ye" via flyers left at contra dances or organizations like CCE, Scottish dance or fiddle societies.
I had a house session at Marty Langer's house in Boston in February. About ten or twelve players sitting at his dining table playing and drinking wine. Good tunes.
Look out for him (a bouzouki player who plays at 'The Burren' and 'The Druid').
Or if you email me i'll give you his phone number....I was given his number by a guy at a session in New York, and when I went to Boston I rang him and he invited me along to his 'house session' in Somerfield....so i'm sure he won't mind if you call
To Jerbal,
You're email was bounced back because you have no email address with your profile and the session won't let you contact people directly. Hope you get this. I didn't ignore your message.
Marty Langer has actually moved out of that house since you were by, Paul. His new digs aren't nearly as conducive to tune playing so we've been doing it elsewhere... and irregularly.
My recommendation to devilselbow is to start by finding a session or two that you like, and get some phone numbers. There is no shortage of music in Boston. I'm SURE you'll find SOMETHING.

In fact - definitely. Somerfield is a supermarket chain here...that's what confused me! I've sent you an email with the number

PS: If you are looking for sessions in town, check out http://www.diddlywiki.org/index.php/Boston_Area It's reasonably up to date.
