Ceili Bandits

Ceili Bandits

I would like to hear experiences folks have had with the Ceili Bandits. I was introduced to their sound this past spring and I really enjoy what they have put together on the 'Hangin At the Crossroads' CD. A friend of mine recently visited Doolin and caught them live in session and said that the CD actually captures their live sound well.

I don't see their CD's listed in the 'recordings'...The jacket for 'Hangin'...' doesn't list the tunes individually. Only listing set titles. I would like to find a few of these tunes...as many of them are unfamiliar...

Re: Ceili Bandits

I think they are awesome, I bought hanging at the crossroads from that little music shop is Doolin a few years ago and then cruised up the west coast with my wife listening to it almost on loop - it is a fantastic record.

Kevin Griffin is top banana and the fiddle playing is excellent - (is is Yvonne Casey I can never remember?!)

Can't help you with the tunes but what I really want to know is when is the next record coming out - come on you lot, if you are out there, it has been a few years now!!

BTW, the first record they did is OK but not in the same league IMHO.

Re: Ceili Bandits

I caught the Ceili Bandits performing in Doolin a number of times last summer, and bought their CD at the Magnetic Music store there. Yvonne Casey has a wonderful touch on the fiddle. Eoin O'Neill was working at Custy's Music store in Ennis and invited me to a local session there.
I had to use the Amazing Slowdowner to learn "Two Fifty to Vigo" on my flute.
My liner notes DO list all the tunes in each set, but I notice that a number of the cuts are just single tunes.
As for "finding" the tunes, do you mean the dots?

Two Fifty to Vigo was written by Angus R Grant from Shooglenifty and you can find the notes (and ABCs) over at their site.

Re: Ceili Bandits

Great stuff. I like that Shoogle site!
I also have to agree about Yvonne's fiddle playing, it's a sweet sound, and a nice light touch.

Re: Ceili Bandits

They actually have another CD out simply entitled 'The Ceili Bandits' wonderful tune sets but don't care much for Mick Casey's vocals. On this cd he sings songs like ' a amand you don't meet everyday' ' trip to Jerusalem' and ' st olav's Gate' all sung with a country western tone, odd.

Some lovely banjo playing from Kevin Griffin, bouzouki eoin o neil ( tuned up ADad ) fiddle Yvonne Casey, and vocals Mick Casey. Bought mine in Lahinch, Ireland.
