Hey, does anyone know of a good source for photgraphs of traditional Irish musicians on the web or elsewhere? I'd like to find some good photos/prints, but have had no luck. It seems like the only photos out there are on the Uillean Pipes Obsession Page, and (no offense to the pipers) all you can find is photos of pipers. I'd like to find photos of some other musicians and instruments as well.
Forgive me Jeremy, I know this is off topic - but I can make it up to you later with loads of good questions about the music itself...

By the way, anyone else out there plan on going to Gaelic Roots 2002? It looks like it will be a rocking time...
There's a band out of Chicago called "Donnybrook". Their website has pictures of the band members playing. www.donnybrookband.com
Wish I could be in Boston. Looks like I'll be spending my summer in school to fulfill the new state of Illinois demands for keeping up certification...to keep my job.
Patrick Street is going to be there! Not as Patrick Street, but every member of the band will be there to teach and whatever, and so they're going to do some concerts before and after Gaelic Roots...

Bring your camera to Gaelic Roots 2002 folks and you won't be disappointed. The only thing the camera won't capture is the quality of the chunes and the craic. Seamus Connolly has another grand cast of talented musicians and the Boat ride on Boston Harbor on Wednesday night with Ceili dancing and sessions on all three decks of the boat with students and teachers participating is grand altogether. Following the boat ride last year the session at Kitty O'Sheas finished in time to get to class the next morning. Hope to see you there. Linda, I had the opportunity last spring to see and hear Brendan Bulger at Chief O'Neil's followed by Donnybook at Celtic Crossings. They seem to know what ITM is out there in Chi-town. I even got Donnybrook's "you're standin in my light" CD. Liz has an enchanting voice but the lads do alright with the chunes. By the way the pictures on the web site don't do them justice. Hoping to get Brendan's recently released CD soon.

This picture certainly embodies the whole 'spirit' of a wonderful session (for me, anyway - maybe some like things a bit more 'serious'!)
As an aside - I am especially glad to see a piano make an appearance in the photo - even if it IS just being used as a drink-holder.
That photo's up on the wall of Dora's (one of the many sessions with which I fill my social calendar). I stare at it and reflect when they launch into a string of tunes I don't know. I've been wanting to get a print of it for some time - thanks for the link, crannog. Photography doesn't get much better than that!

Donnybrook just released its second CD on St. Paddy's Day last month. I haven't heard it, yet, but I'm told that it is pure Donnybrook...no "friends" (other musicians) this time. I'm not in the band; I just session with some of the band members.
An off-shoot, in response to a comment of Kerri's:
Doras .. is that the one in Toronto? If so - how is it? Is it an open session / closed / worth going to hear / what kinds of tunes would one expect to hear (Irish / Cape Breton, etc?)
...sorry to get off topic here .. but just curious!!!

Bookwise, take a look at The Heartbeat of Irish Music by Peter Woods and Christy McNamara. Tons of wonderful pics there. Of course, the photos are copywrited.
