So, who out of this rag tag band of musicians extraordinaire will be making it to the Liverpool Irish Fest in October? I do hope to see some appearances as we've a great line up this year.
Re: Liverpool Irish Festival. Be there or be cuboid.
Trevor - is that one of those cubes in 4 dimensions, they were on about on the science programme on Radio 4?
BTW, Nick, if you post the website as below, it should come straight up as a link:
Re: Liverpool Irish Festival. Be there or be cuboid.
Danny, yes. You can draw on a piece of paper a 2-D image of a 3-D "shadow" in 3-space of a 4-D hypercube like this:
1. Sketch a perspective wire-frame view of a simple cube.
2. Now sketch a perspective wire-frame view of a second, larger cube surrounding the first cube.
3. Then connect each vertex of the inner cube with the corresponding vertex of the outer cube.
For clarity, it helps to use different colours for the line drawing in each stage.
Each line you have now drawn represents an edge of the hypercube; where 2 or more lines join is a vertex; each set of 4 joined lines defines a 2-D face of the hypercube; and (this is the conceptually difficult part) each set of 6 joined 2-D faces defines a 3-D face of the hypercube.
As a party game (preferably well into the celebrations of someone's PhD, or even during session craic if one is really sad) you may wish to count the number of vertices, edges, 2-D faces, and 3-D faces of the hypercube
Btw, it's a common mistake to confuse the 4th dimension with "time". It's not; it's just a mathematical concept.

Sorry, can't make it. Does that make me hypercuboid?
