I found a tape in my car the other day with no markings at all on it and decided to chuck it in the stereo and see what it was. I was pleasantly surprised. It was an absolutely brilliant band and I have been playing it non stop ever since, but I have no clue who they are. None of my friends know either and I am wondering if anyone here knows. I am sure I don't own a CD by this band - surely I would have recognised it - and have no idea how it ended up in my car. Anyway, here are some details of the band and if anyone can give me any clues that would be great.
They sound Scottish.
Line up is;
female singer who sings all songs in gaelic and has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. Clarsach. Whistles/pipes. Keyboard. Fiddle. Slight touch of accordion in places.
They also do a slow tune where they use what sounds like an oboe and viola. And one of the tunes on the fiddle instrumental track is the Dashing White Eejit by Allan Henderson. Does this ring any bells with anyone?
Look 4ward to hearing the CD, Sandy. How will it be made available for thesession.org members?
Fi, another strong possibility for the band you are hearing would be the band "Cloud Nine" with Rachael Newton singing the Gaelic songs. I saw them in Inverness at Christmas....I know they have a girl who play the saxophone (probably Oboe as well).
Might be Allan's sister Ingrid on vocals, great singer... Good luck on finding out who it is, but sounds like it might be from the Locahaber/Fort William area.
Thanks for all your ideas. I was rehearsing in a music shop the other night and went thru all the CDs there - turns out it WAS Dochas!. I can sleep easy now, and buy the real thing. And hope to see you soon Paul in a wee session somewhere. Take care.
Paul, my understanding is that the CD will be available on-line at a CD replicator's sight. Zina Lee is handling that and I'm sure she will post info when (and/or *if*) this project is ever completed.
This project had some real momentum many months ago but at this point the momentum has turned to inertia. I'm sure that many of the people who submitted tracks months ago are wondering what the heck is going on. So am I.
What is the name of this brilliant band?

Re: What is the name of this brilliant band?
Hi Fi, it might be one of the following:
"Blazin' Fiddles" - http://www.blazin-fiddles.co.uk
"Cliar" - http://www.cliar.com
http://www.roshvenrecords.com
or maybe even Allan Henderson's solo album, 'Estd - 1976'? see: http://www.folkmusic.net/htmfiles/webrevs/skyecd24.htm for review.
