uploading tunes that are already here

uploading tunes that are already here

A few weeks ago, I uploaded a tune which was already here, under a different name. Someone caught it, and it got deleted, but I'd like to know how to avoid this in the future.
Thank-you

Re: uploading tunes that are already here

The proper way to submit a tune that is already here is to put the abc notation in a comment to the tune you are duplicating (ignore the "Note: Please don't post tunes in ABC notation here" - honest)

You should have a reason for the duplication such as a new section, or alternative arrangement, since it's a waste of resources just to have two identical copies of the same tune.

If you want an example click here :http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/3376

The only problem with this is that you can't "hear" the abc as a midi file. Since many people frown on midi files you won't here much complaining about this, although for those who don't read music or abc, learning by ear might be useful.

If you need to hear an abc file you can use the concertina.net tune-o-tron: http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html

Re: uploading tunes that are already here

my mistake - the "don't post ABC notation" warning is only on the discussions - it doesn't appear when posting a comment to a tune.
